Safety improvement project on Interstate 66 in Warren County beginning July 9

Chris Graham

road work transportationVDOT is scheduled to make roadway improvements to a two-mile section of Interstate 66 in Warren County starting Monday, July 9. Contractors will apply a high-friction surface treatment to the eastbound and westbound lanes to improve traction on curves between exit 6 (Front Royal) and exit 13 (Linden).

This work requires single-lane closures from mile marker 10.1 to 12.2 as follows:

  • From 8 a.m. Monday, July 9, through 8 a.m. Friday, July 13, the eastbound left lane will be closed up to 24 hours a day.
  • From 8 a.m. Monday, July 16, through 8 a.m. Friday, July 20, the eastbound right lane will be closed up to 24 hours a day.
  • From 8 a.m. Monday, July 23, through 8 a.m. Friday, July 27, the westbound left lane will be closed during the hours of 8 p.m. and 3 p.m. Lane closures will be lifted during afternoon and early evening commute times.
  • From 8 a.m. Monday, July 30, through 8 a.m. Friday, August 3, the westbound right lane will be closed during the hours of 8 p.m. and 3 p.m. Lane closures will be lifted during afternoon and early evening commute times.

No lane closures in either direction of I-66 will be allowed from 8 a.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Monday. All work is weather permitting.

When the high-friction surface treatment is complete, motorists will notice an increase in road noise. This is due to the type of aggregate material applied to the asphalt.

Marriage equality is the law of the land, sure, but, take nothing for granted

It’s already the settled law of the land, marriage equality, but Virginia still has embedded in its state constitution, thanks to the politics of 2006, a provision narrowly defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.
