james madison university jmuBlake Rogers, a native of Clover Hill and a student in James Madison University’s graduate physician assistant studies program, has been named “Student of the Year” by the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

press release from the AAPA states its Student of the Year Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to exemplary service, advocacy and leadership to the PA profession.

Jerry Weniger, director of the JMU program, said Rogers “is the embodiment of service and leadership in a student. Our program has never had a PA student with this much ambition, passion, or energy for outreach, engagement, and volunteerism. He has gone above and well beyond expectations for any student, never mind a busy PA student.”

Rogers, who will graduate in December, has been a rescue squad volunteer and earned his undergraduate degrees in biology and environmental sustainability from Eastern Mennonite University.

“I am extremely honored to be recognized by the AAPA,” Rogers said. “This recognition reflects the support I have received from family, friends, colleagues, teachers and mentors throughout my life. I feel inspired to continue serving others on my journey as a student and a future physician assistant.”
