U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine sent a bipartisan letter to the leadership of the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), calling for the improvement of mail delivery service to be a critical component of any comprehensive USPS reform bill.
“While the importance of reliable mail delivery for customers, especially those living in rural areas, has not changed, the Postal Service’s ability to perform that service has substantially declined,” wrote the Senators. “For any comprehensive postal reform bill to have a chance of passing this Congress, it needs to truly address the key problem facing customers across the country, which is the need for better service performance.”
Also co-signing the letter were U.S. Senators Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Tammy Bladwin (D-WI), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Pat Roberts (R-KS), Gary Peters (D-MI), Steve Daines (R-MT), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Angus King (I-ME), Al Franken (D-MN), Tom Udall (D-NM), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH).
