One injured in gun-related incident in Augusta County

augusta countyAn Augusta County man was injured in an odd gun-related incident in the Harriston area reported Thursday.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Strickley Road at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The initial report was that one person was dead and another injured in the incident, but upon arrival deputies were able to determine that no shooting had taken place.

A male was injured at the scene by a firearm when it discharged while he was trying to take it apart, Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith said.

Charges are pending, Smith said.

The sheriff said it appears that methamphetamine use is a likely contributing factor in the incident.
