Update: Wednesday, 5:25 p.m. Detectives today obtained a criminal charge and detention order for the oldest student involved in Monday’s bomb threat hoax.  The offender, a fifteen year old female, faces a Class 5 felony charge of §18.2-83 Threat to Bomb (the age of offender at the time of the alleged offense determines whether or not the punishment will be a felony or misdemeanor).

Officers took her into custody at her residence at 4:30 PM.  She is being detained at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing in Waynesboro Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court.

Update: Tuesday, 10:09 a.m. The Waynesboro Police Department has identified three juveniles as the ones responsible for yesterday’s bomb threat hoax.  The juveniles, all female Waynesboro High School students, wrote the threat on the wall of girls’ restroom.

All three will be charged in connection with the case.

Original story: Monday, 5:13 p.m. The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a bomb threat that was made to Waynesboro High School, 1200 West Main Street, early Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1 p.m., school administrators and the school resource officer were notified about a bomb threat to the building.  The school was evacuated of students and staff.  First responders arrived and did a cursory search of the building, finding no suspicious device.  Four bomb-sniffing dogs from the Virginia State Police responded to do a more thorough search of the campus.  The campus was deemed safe for occupancy at approximately 5 p.m.

As part of the police department’s investigation, officers are reviewing footage from the school’s security system to narrow in on suspects.

In addition to the Virginia State Police, deputies with the Waynesboro Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department at (540) 942-6675 or Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 322-2017.  Information given to Crime Stoppers may be given anonymously.  Callers with information that lead to an arrest in this case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
