Waynesboro entrepreneur sets sights on knitting bag production

AFP

mariah-clark-knitting-bagWaynesboro entrepreneur Mariah Clark has been listening to knitters in her Local Yarn Shop, Stitch Amour, for years, hearing all about their knitting projects and likes and dislikes for different products.

One recurring complaint that she knew from personal experience was true, was that not all bags work well as knitting bags, especially for knitters that are on the move and want to take their small projects with them. Most customers felt available bags just weren’t functional.

So Clark, whose background and training is in fashion design, went to work to solve their problem. In 2014 she began to design a bag that was both functional and fashionable. She started by conducting a survey of fellow knitters to find out what they love and hate about knitting bags. She then set out to create a bag to meet these requirements. Along the way she also researched materials, USA production, marketing, and other aspects needed to bring the bag to reality. By mid-2016 she was ready to again survey the knitting world, this time about her new design Duo.

After completing this period of final market research and customer review, Clark is launching a Kickstarter campaign in November 2016 to raise funds to take the bag line into full production. A special launch party will be held November 1 from 4-6 p.m. at Stitch Amour, 112 S Wayne Ave, Waynesboro.

A variety of special pre-launch offers will be available online at www.laurielaine.com throughout the month of October.

“Making this bag available will be a dream come true for me,” said Clark. “I’ve been creating bags for myself and a small number of customers for years, but really wanted to bring a stylish, functional product to a wider audience. To be able to produce and sell these will be an exciting addition to running my Waynesboro yarn shop.”
