united way of greater augustaUnited Way of Greater Augusta is celebrating 75 years of Caring for Generations with the 75th Anniversary Campaign Kick Off that will take place on Friday, September 9th at 8:30 a.m.at 216 Frontier Drive in Staunton.

To make the celebration meaningful and memorable, United Way is drawing a connection to the past and looking for guidance from the individuals, and the families of individuals that have had a hand in United Way through the years.

“Marking the significance of serving in this community for 75 years is an important distinction to make”, said President and CEO Cynthia Pritchard, “there are hundreds of people throughout that time that have built United Way into what it is today, and it is on their shoulders that we stand as we move toward the future.”

Investing in the community has been important part of what United Way of Greater Augusta has done over the past 75 years. During that time, over 40 million dollars has gone to programs and community partners that meet strict criteria for human service initiatives.

In August 1941, community leaders in Waynesboro partnered with Community Chest nationally to bring a consolidated giving model to the community. In January 1942, the community of Staunton did the same.

In the 1970s, the name was changed to United Way nationally and that name was adopted locally.

In 2004, United Way of Waynesboro-East Augusta and United Way of Staunton – West Augusta were merged to become the United Way of Greater Augusta. 75 years after beginning to serve the community, Caring for Generations has been adopted as the theme for the 2016 Campaign.

Employee Campaign Coordinators should plan to stay afterward for Coordinator Training directly following the Kick Off. Coordinators will learn what is new with United Way, innovative campaign ideas, and be able to network with other coordinators.
