Virginia football head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced today that offensive linemen Sadiq Olanrewaju (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Eric Tetlow (Richmond, Va.) are retiring due to medical reasons. Both players remain enrolled at the University and will continue to complete their undergraduate degrees. Each player would have been a senior during the 2016 season.
Olanrewaju appeared in 13 games during the 2013 and 2014 seasons before missing the 2015 campaign due to injury. He participated in the Cavaliers’ 2016 spring football sessions before making the decision to retire from football.
Olanrewaju played in five games as a true freshman in 2013. He played in eight games in 2014 and started twice that year. He participated in a total of 434 plays during his career, primarily at left tackle.
Tetlow also played in five games as a true freshman during the 2013 season. He redshirted in 2014 and missed the entire 2015 season due to an injury suffered during training camp that fall. A center on the offensive line, he participated in 108 plays during his career.
Freshmen Not Enrolling
Two members of Virginia’s 2016 signing class – Deedrick Daniels and Trysten Hill – will not enroll at the University and will not be a part of the Cavaliers’ football program. Daniels (Tampa, Fla.) was projected as a defensive back while Hill (Lee, Fla.) was expected to play on the defensive line.
