economic-forecast-headerMaryland Senator Thomas “Mac” Middleton, chair of the Tri-State Chesapeake Bay Commission and Commission Vice-Chair Virginia Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (31st District) announced the recent appointment of Dennis H. Treacy as the new Virginia citizen representative.

“As a recognized leader in sustainable agriculture and natural resource conservation, we know the Commission will greatly benefit by the appointment of Mr. Treacy,” said Senator Middleton.  “Mr. Treacy’s leadership in guiding diverse, collaborative partnerships fits well with the Commission’s focus on advancing workable, consensus-based policies for improving the Chesapeake Bay,” added Delegate Lingamfelter.

Treacy recently stepped away from his role as executive vice president and chief sustainability officer for Smithfield Foods and currently serves as president of the Smithfield Foundation, the nonprofit organization that acts as the philanthropic wing of Smithfield, until his retirement in late 2016.  Prior to joining Smithfield Foods, Treacy was director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality; he has also served as assistant attorney general in the natural resources section of the Virginia Attorney General’s office.

“The Commission also wishes to thank Mr. John Reynolds for his outstanding service to the Commission as the Virginia citizen representative during the past six years.  Mr. Reynolds strengthened the Commission’s knowledge base on land conservation, trails, parks and many additional Bay matters.  Thank goodness John has pledged to continue his work with us,” said Senator Middleton.
