Overnight lane closures are scheduled for northbound and southbound Interstate 81 in Frederick County for four consecutive nights beginning May 31. These lane closures will allow contractors to remove concrete barriers along the right lanes of the interstate. All work is weather permitting.
Tuesday, May 31, through Thursday, June 2, the right lane of northbound and southbound Interstate 81 will be closed between mile markers 310 and 311.2, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning,
Friday, June 3, the right lane of northbound and southbound Interstate 81 will be closed between mile markers 310 and 311.2, from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
This work is part of the exit 310 interchange reconstruction project near Winchester. The speed limit on I-81 northbound and southbound through the exit 310 work zone is 60 miles per hour.
The exit 310 project reconstructs the interchange ramps on I-81 at the southern end of Route 37. The new interchange will feature a “spread diamond” configuration that widens and spreads the ramps outward from their current intersections with Route 37. The project extends existing turn lanes and adds dual right- and left-turn lanes to improve traffic flow on the ramps and on Route 37 and Route 11.
The expanded configuration will relocate and connect Route 642 (Tasker Road) and Route 847 (Hillandale Lane) with a segment of Route 37 to be built east of I-81. West of the interstate, this project will modify the ramps at the Route 37 interchange with Route 11.
General Excavation Inc. (GEI) of Warrenton, Va. was awarded a construction contract valued at nearly $25 million. The exit 310 project is scheduled for completion in May 2018. For more information, go to www.virginiadot.org/projects/staunton/i-81_exit_310.asp.
