Staunton street closures will allow storm drain upgrades

AFP

staunton virginiaPortions of Bridge Street, Green Street and Stuart Street in Staunton will be closed to through traffic beginning Feb. 1 and continuing through May 30.

The city will be upgrading an undersized storm drain system to alleviate flooding and water damage on Vickers Way and several surrounding streets. Storm sewer capacity will be increased from Vickers Way to Buttermilk Spring Run, and several city utility lines will be relocated.

Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic around the construction area.  Residents should pay close attention to detour signs in these areas, allow for additional travel time and be mindful of construction crews.

The project will be completed by Atkins Excavating at a cost of $787,000.

School buses and the Silver Trolley will be rerouted during this project. The city will provide details regarding transit detours in the coming days.
