We are constantly meeting new people in our lives, whether they are friends, colleagues, or lovers. Now, it is important to try to find out as much as you can about someone, as you will then know the kind of person they are. Suppose your son or daughter is dating someone new – wouldn’t you like to find out about that person and whether they have a shady past you should know about?!
The internet and technology have developed so much that we can pretty much do anything these days. There are so many resources out there that will let you find out as much information as you can about a person. Now, whether or not this is a positive or negative remains to be seen, and it’s pretty subjective as well. Being able to find out as much as you can about a person has benefits and drawbacks, and we’re going to look at some now.
Advantages
Now, when it comes to finding out information about a person, there are a lot of benefits. For one thing, this gives you peace of mind and is important for security. Suppose you’ve just moved house, or you’re thinking of moving – you might want to know what your neighbors are like. By using technology to find out about a person and their life, you can be sure they are trustworthy and this will make you feel much better about having them in your life.
There’s also the benefit of being able to find this information much more easily. Back in the day you might have had to go down the route of hiring a private investigator to find out information about an individual. Well, these days you don’t have to, and it’s easier than ever. Now, by going online and using a quick background check service is as quick as Googling them, and reveals much more information than you could ever get from a search engine.
Disadvantages
Yes, it’s great to be able to find out what you want about a person, but you also need to think about the disadvantages to this as well. For one thing, you might find out information about a person that you really didn’t want to know. You have to be careful what you wish for sometimes, and this is something that can really change your life in a negative way.
Another disadvantage of this is the fact that it is a massive invasion of privacy. Okay, perhaps if you find something on the person, you can justify the search. But, if everything comes back fine, you have the moral dilemma of having invaded somebody’s privacy without them knowing. This is something you need to live with, and it’s not going to be easy.
It’s clear that the ease with which we can find out about a person makes it a very attractive prospect. A quick search can reveal whether or not a person can be trusted, but there are also negatives to consider as well. One thing is sure, in the digital age your privacy is constantly violated, and this could set us off down a dangerous path.
