WTA’s Gateway will begin its second fall season in September with the addition of four new series. Joining the “Signature Shows” at the venue will be the River City Boys’ Jamboree, the Custin Jazz Night, the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge’s Family Performances and a monthly history lecture. The new series will expand the variety of entertainment WTA’s Gateway has brought to the area.
The River City Boys’ Jamboree will feature the popular singing group. Tim and Chris Williams, Randy Clark, and Andy Fletcher debuted at WTA’s Gateway at the River City Radio Hour and joined the Sunny Side Family Band for a well-attended performance. The Jamboree will include a number of other talents beside River City Boys. They promise comics, magicians, ventriloquists, mentalists, musicians, every kind of talent that brings excitement and pleasure to their audience. “We expect the Jamboree will build a following that will allow it to move to the reopened Wayne Theatre,” says Clair Myers, Executive Director of the Wayne Theatre Alliance. “Our hope is that it will be the first WTA production to be broadcast.” The Jamboree will be produced the first Friday of the month.
The Custin Jazz Night will bring a series of jazz performers and groups to what has been called by musicians “the best listening room” in Central Virginia. Regional and national artists will headline the Jazz Nights in an environment that allows for a relaxed evening of musical pleasure. ACME Swing Mfg Co will open the series in September followed by Too Human and L’Tanya Mari Trio and the Great American Songbook.
Also beginning in September will be special monthly performances for children and their families. Supported by a grant from the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge, the series will start on September 28-30 with Magic Weekend in Waynesboro. There will be three performances and a series of magic lessons at WTA’s Gateway as well magic acts at other venues in downtown Waynesboro.
To complete the new series, WTA will offer monthly lectures on topics of interest to the local community. The September offering will be a repeat of the sold-out lecture by the Clann Mhor on the Crozet Tunnel. The lectures are a cooperative partnership of The Waynesboro Heritage Foundation and WTA.
“The Alliance’s goal has been to provide entertainment to the whole community and to do so at a price that makes it available to all.” said Tracy Straight, chair of the programming committee. “The new additions in the Fall will insure that WTA’s Gateway has ‘something for everyone’.”
