Women’s tennis: UVA announces 2018-2019 schedule

UVA men’s tennisThe UVA women’s tennis team announced its 2018-19 schedule on Tuesday (Sept. 11). It’s a challenging schedule that features 12 home dual matches in the spring and a total of 12 matches against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.

The 2018-19 slate begins in the fall, with several individual tournaments on the docket. It begins with the TCU Invitational (Sept. 19-23), the ODU Invitational (Oct. 5-7) and the UNC Kitty Harrison Invitational (Nov. 2-4). Players will also have the chance to compete in the ITA/Riviera All-American (Sept. 29 – Oct. 7), the ITA Atlantic Regional (Oct. 12-16) and the ITA Fall National Championships (Nov. 7-11).

The spring schedule features 12 home dual matches with five non-conference matchups and seven against ACC competition in Charlottesville.

In non-conference action, the Cavaliers will host Quinnipiac and Army (Jan. 19), Richmond (Jan. 22), George Mason (Feb. 16) and Old Dominion (March 28). Virginia will travel to compete at Michigan (March 13). The Cavaliers will also participate in the ITA Kickoff Weekend (Jan. 25-26) at Oklahoma State, facing the Cowgirls in the opening match of the weekend for Virginia.

In ACC competition, the Cavaliers will host Boston College (Feb. 16), NC State (Feb. 22), Virginia Tech (Feb. 24), North Carolina (March 8), Georgia Tech (March 31), Notre Dame (April 5) and Louisville (April 7).

Virginia will travel to face ACC opponents Syracuse (Feb. 1), Clemson (March 1), Wake Forest (March 3), Pittsburgh (March 22), Duke (March 24), Florida State (April 11) and Miami (April 13).

The ACC Women’s Tennis Championships will be held in Cary, N.C., from April 17-21.

The NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships will begin with regional action at sites to be determined the weekend of May 3-5. Super Regional play will be in effect for women’s tennis for the first time this season and super regional sites will be determined for play with the remaining 16 teams the weekend of May 10-11. The team finals, featuring eight teams, will be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., from May 16-25.
