The Virginia women’s basketball team (13-6, 3-2 ACC) plays at No. 14 Florida State (14-4, 4-1 ACC) on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

The Seminoles are the fourth ranked team the Cavaliers have faced this month after downing then-No. 22 Miami, 76-56, and falling to No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 23 Louisville. For the second-straight week, Virginia is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Cavaliers snapped a streak of three-straight low-scoring and cold-shooting performances with a 78-67 victory at Georgia Tech on Sunday (Jan. 17). Virginia shot a season-best 54.1 percent (33-of-61) against the Yellow Jackets. In the second half, Virginia shot a blistering 65.5 percent (19-of-29), the Cavaliers’ highest shooting percentage in a half since going the same 19-of-29 at Virginia Tech on Feb. 15, 2007. In the fourth quarter, UVA shot 83.3 percent, going 10-of-12 from the field. In the previous three games, UVA shot a combined 30.8 percent and averaged 46.3 points per game.
Junior Breyana Mason (Woodbridge, Va.) had her first 20-point game of the season, finishing with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting. The 10 made field goals was the most by a Cavalier in a game this season. In the last two games, Mason is shooting 68.1 percent (15-of-22).
Sophomore Mikayla Venson (Arlington, Va.) scored 23 points at Georgia Tech, her sixth 20-point game of the season and her second in the last three games. Venson has moved up to fifth in scoring in the ACC, averaging 15.6 points per game.
Sophomore Lauren Moses (Mount Holly, N.J.) had her second-straight double-digit rebounding game at Georgia Tech, grabbing 10 rebounds. Moses has tallied double digits in either points or rebounds or both in all but one game (Notre Dame) since the Rutgers game on Nov. 27.
Virginia leads the all-time series against Florida State, 34-15, but has lost the last two meetings. UVA’s last win was an 85-68 victory in Charlottesville Jan. 19, 2014, the first of two meetings between the teams that season. Florida State’s current 27-game home win streak began with its 82-70 win over Virginia on March 2, 2014.
FSU is fifth in the country in rebounding margin (+14.9) and sixth in scoring margin (+21.2). Brittany Brown leads the ACC and is fourth in the nation in steals, averaging 3.61 per game. Shakayla Thomas leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. Adut Bulgak averages 14.7 points and a team-best 8.3 rebounds per game.
Virginia will be back in action at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday, Jan. 24, hosting Pittsburgh at 1 p.m.
