Women’s Basketball: EMU loses at Guilford, 67-55

Chrissy Delawder (Broadway, Va./Broadway) hit her first three pointer of the night to start the scoring for EMU. The teams then traded buckets until Chloe Roach (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) tied the game at 9 by the 2:20 mark. Guilford (8-5/4-4 ODAC) scored on two of their final three possessions of the quarter and take an 13-9 lead into the second.
Emily McCombs (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) tied the game back up at 18 with a three pointer with 7:07 to go. The Quakers jumped to a 29-25 lead late before Delawder hit another three to get the Royals within one. A late Guilford jumper put them back up by three going into halftime at 31-28.
A steal by Jade Payton (Berryville, Va./Clarke County) followed by back-to-back three pointers by Payton and Jada Jackson (Portsmouth, Va./Churchland) started the second half scoring for EMU as they took a 34-33 lead. The Quakers would finish the third quarter on a 14-5 run as they held a 47-39 lead heading into the final frame.
Seven straight points by Guilford put the Royals into a sixteen-point deficit to start the fourth quarter. Three pointers by Anya Kauffman (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) and Delawder narrowed the gap to just nine with 3:52 to go. Two free throws by Delawder got EMU within seven points, but offensive rebounding by the Quakers allowed them to control possession down the stretch and hold on for the win.
EMU made 39.6% (21-53) of their shots while Guilford shot 44.4% (28-63) from the floor. The Royals made 39.1% (9-23) from three-point range and the Quakers 23.1% (3-13). Guilford held a 43-28 advantage in rebounds, with 16 coming on the offensive end.
Delawder was the leading scorer for EMU with 17 points, hitting three 3-pointers with five rebounds. Roach finished with eight points and McCombs with six points.
Kristen Roberts led Guilford with 14 points off the bench while three starters scored in double figures.
