washington nationalsA potential game-ending double-play ball turned into a walk-off three-base error that gifted a 4-3 win to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Washington Nationals Wednesday night.

The Nats (43-30) have lost a season-high five straight.

With Washington up 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Shawn Kelley (1-1, 2.39 ERA) struck out Joc Pederson to lead off the inning. Pinch-hitter Howie Kendrick singled, bringing up Yasiel Puig, who hit a ground ball through the box just outside the reach of shortstop Danny Espinosa.

Center fielder Michael A. Taylor misplayed the ball, which rolled past him into left-center. Puig, motoring on the basepaths, came all the way around to score behind Kendrick to end it.

Wilson Ramos (.330/.376/.557) hit his 12th homer of the season, a solo shot in the eighth that had given the Nats the 3-2 lead.

Starting pitcher Joe Ross (6-4, 3.11 ERA) gave up two runs on seven hits in six and a third innings, striking out five and walking one.

Ross (.258/.324/.323) was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
