Waynesboro streetscape project update

Waynesboro city officials are hoping this is a big week with respect to progress on the downtown streetscape project.

waynesboro2editsAn email from city planning director Michael Barnes indicated that the focus of work this week will be on milling and repaving Wayne Avenue downtown, finishing the installation of brick pavers in front of the LB&B building and the tree pits along Wayne, and finishing the streetlights along the northern side of Main Street.

The goal this week is also to finish installing the curb and gutter and driveways along the south side of Main Street.

Crews will close Wayne Avenue from Federal Street to Broad Street all day Wednesday for milling work. The Main/ Wayne intersection will also be temporarily closed to thru-traffic as the milling machine works through the intersection.

The same scenario is on deck for Thursday if it does not rain too much. Otherwise, repaving Wayne will occur the following week.

Either way, according to Barnes, the city will have the sidewalks open and completed in time for the Christmas Parade on Saturday night.

A copy of the streetscape plans is also available for download at this website.
