Waynesboro senior dead in single-vehicle crash

policecar3The Waynesboro Police Department is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred this afternoon in the 1900 block of Lyndhurst Road.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:13 P.M. and arrived to find a single vehicle, which was a 2005 Chevrolet 4 door, had struck a tree . The female driver, 87, was in the vehicle, unresponsive, and subsequently died at the scene despite efforts of rescue personnel.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling north on Lyndhurst Road when it left the road for unknown reason, traveled up an embankment, and finally collided with the tree.

The investigation continues at this time and the identity of the deceased is being withheld until notification of next of kin.

 

Update: Thursday, 9:23 a.m. The victim, and sole occupant in the single vehicle fatality that occurred in the 1900 block of Lyndhurst Road yesterday afternoon, Oct 22, 2014, is Margaret Elizabeth Legg, 87, of Waynesboro. An autopsy has been requested in the case which is standard procedure and the investigation continues.
