waynesboro libraryDr. Levine and the Dreaded Blues Lady, comprised of Lorie Strother and Stephen Levine, will appear in concert at the Waynesboro Public Library on Friday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m.

The following week, on Wednesday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m., Rhythms ‘Round Virginia will be presented by Kim and Jimbo Cary.

The energetic duo of Levine and Strother has performed at the library often. Their blues music styles are primarily from the 1920s and 1930s with a sprinkling of contemporary blues.  This evening’s show time offers an opportunity for the working community to enjoy a free concert by this dynamic duo.

Strother has been recording and recording her interpretation of acoustic blues since the early 1990s. Her music has been influenced by Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, and Sippie Wallace.  Levine is a historian at the University of Virginia who studies and teaches about the cultural significance of blues music. Levine’s blues influences include Charley Patton, Son House, and Robert Johnson.

WPL is also glad to welcome back Kim and Jimbo Cary for a musical tour of the Commonwealth. Their traditional music includes Colonial era fiddle tunes, 19th century banjo breakdowns, songs of the railroad and the Civil War, and Carter family music. In addition to the banjo and fiddle, the Carys play the mandolin, guitar, jawharp, bones, and a variety of other instruments during the performance.

Kim and Jimbo are award-winning musicians who have been performing traditional music for over twenty years. The Carys are dedicated to sharing their love of music with audiences throughout Virginia.
