May 1-31 – One Book One Community Join us this May and read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks byRebecca Skloot. It’s a true story detailing the scientific discovers made using cells from an unsuspecting descendant of freed slaves. There will be events throughout Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta Country related to the book.
May 1-31 – Real Life Reads To honor the One Book One Community book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, children are encouraged to read a true story. Check out a biography, read it, complete the questionnaire and you may receive a Real Life Reads tote bag while supplies last.
Tuesday, May 6, 7:00 pm – Book Talk. Dr. Barry Araújo Kolman is the author of The Language of Music Revealed. He’ll discuss South American music and his book, which explains an easy way to learn to read and write music.
Friday, May 9, 6:30 p.m. – Friday Night at the Movies Showing new releases on the big screen. Free popcorn and drinks. Check at the library for the featured film.
Tuesday, May 13, 12:00 pm – Music at the Library featuring folk & Americana by John Tracy. Enjoy free pizza and soda.
Thursday, May 15, 7:00 pm – Science Talk. Discover what Susan Halsell, associate professor of biology at JMU, has to say about some of the science and medical issues in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. This is a One Book One Community event.
Wednesday, May 21, 7:00 p.m. – Wednesday Night Book Club. Fascinating and far ranging discussion with other book lovers. The book is provided, participants vote on selections, and a staff member leads the discussion.
Thursday, May 29, 6:00 pm – Book A Day Banquet. If you have participated in the Book-A-Day Reading Program for 3 or more months, you’re invited to our end of the year banquet. We will recognize our parents that accepted the challenge to read a book a day to their little one at this invitation only event. Please see the front desk for details.

10:30 a.m. Swing and Sway This music and movement class is just the thing you need to get started in the morning. No stories, just song and dance. Ages 0-6.
4:00 p.m. WPL Knitters. Bring your materials and socialize with other knitters.
Tuesday
9:30-11:30 a.m. Chat-N-Play provides interactive play for your little one and conversation for you. Open to children ages 0-3 and their caregivers.
Wednesday
9:30 a.m. Mother Goose Time is an interactive program featuring songs, finger-plays, books, movements, and nursery rhymes for children from birth through age two and their caregivers.
10:30 a.m. Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages two through five accompanied by an adult.
Thursday
9:30 a.m. Mamá Ganso, mother Goose in Spanish, features stories, songs, finger-plays, and movements for children from birth through age two and their caregivers.
10:00 a.m. Computer classes are offered Thursday of every week. Classes rotate between Computer Basics, Basic Internet Skills, Introduction to Microsoft Word and Introduction to Microsoft Excel. Call (540) 942-6746 to register.
