Daniel Bennett GroupThe Waynesboro Public Library will host an evening of jazz with the Daniel Bennett Group at 7 p.m., Tuesday, August 7. This free concert is rare Virginia show for this trio based in New York City.

In 2015, The Daniel Bennett Group was voted “Best New Jazz Group” by Hot House, New York City’s premier jazz guide. The band has released six critically-acclaimed albums that showcase saxophonist Bennet’s compositions that are a hybrid of jazz and folk.

Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 10 received his Masters in Saxophone Performance at the New England Conservatory.

After a stint performing in Boston, Bennett moved to New York City in 2010 where he enlisted the current lineup of the Daniel Bennet Group. Bennet also composes scores for Broadway and Off-Broadway. He recently played woodwinds in Blank! The Musical, the first fully improvised Off-Broadway musical to launch on a national stage.

Librarian Rebecca Lamb says, “For years, Daniel Bennet has demonstrated his commitment to sharing jazz by performing in public libraries across the county. It is rare for a musician of his caliber to seek out libraries as a venue, much less to work with limited library budgets.”

Waynesboro Public Library is located at 600 S. Wayne Avenue in Waynesboro. For additional information, call 540-942-6746 or visit www.WaynesboroPublicLibrary.org.
