Waynesboro Public Library children’s department to be dedicated

library-main2About a year after Waynesboro Public Library opened the doors to a newly renovated library, the children’s area will be dedicated in the memory of Ed and Betty Menaker. Their very generous estate donation will go far in supporting the activities and needs of WPL. The dedication will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. The whole community is invited to attend the reception that includes remarks by J.B. Yount and refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. Menaker were active participants in library organizations and throughout the community. Mr. Menaker served on WPL’s Board of Trustees and chaired the building committee that oversaw construction of the current building in 1969. He also managed the city council campaigns for former mayor J.B. Yount and others. Mrs. Menaker was a member of the Friends of the Library and honorary member of the Foundation Board. Her love of the library corresponds to her dedication to many Waynesboro school children as a reading tutor.

The children’s area was renovated in the latest improvements that brought the children’s collection and programming room together on the same floor. The Ed & Betty Menaker Children’s Room joins the Jeane C. Custin Young Adult Room and the Ann H. Eckman Internet Café, which were unveiled at the library’s reopening on June 11, 2012. The renovated children’s programming room and the local history and genealogy room have yet to be named.
