Waynesboro Generals whitewash Woodstock, 3-0

generals-woodstock3Kevin Doherty and Marcus Shippey scattered nine Woodstock hits, and Waynesboro got another big night from shortstop Mike Marcinko at the plate, en route to a 3-0 Generals win Friday night at Kate Collins Field.

Doherty (1-0) scattered eight hits in six innings of work, striking out two and walking one in his first start of the summer. Doherty threw 73 pitches, 49 for strikes, and worked out of jams all night long, including a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the fourth.

Marcinko had three hits in four trips, and Cole Gruber went 2-for-4 at the plate to raise his team-leading batting average to .354.

Mike McClellan and Garrett Russini each had RBI hits for Waynesboro, which improves to 20-15 with the win.

The Generals are at home again Saturday night, hosting Winchestr at Kate Collins Field with the first pitch at 7 p.m.
