Waynesboro Generals score five in eighth, top North-leading Strasburg, 9-4

generals-expressWaynesboro broke a 4-4 tie with five runs in the bottom of the eighth in posting a 9-4 win over the Strasburg Express Wednesday night.

The Generals (13-13), winners of six of their last seven games, took the lead on a one-out RBI triple by Joseph Estrada that scored Jonathan Camp, who had singled to lead off the inning.

Austin Hale walked, and Imani Willis followed with an RBI single that made it 6-4. A Stephen Pitarra sacrifice fly made it 7-4, and back-to-back RBI singles by Clayton Taylor and Kevin Phillips made it 9-4.

The rally made a winner of Matt Horkey (3-1, 2.55 ERA), who pitched a complete game, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one, on 103 pitches, 77 of them for strikes.

Trevor Farrell (0-1, 11.57 ERA) took the loss, charged with five runs on six hits in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

Michael Brosseau continued a recent hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Brosseau is 8-for-11 at the plate in the past two games, with three extra-base hits and six runs scored, raising his batting average from .287 two days ago to .337 at the end of the day on Wednesday.
