gens-braves3Waynesboro rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh with a good bit of help from the Staunton Braves bullpen in posting a 5-3 win in Valley League baseball action on Thursday.

Staunton (9-2) led 3-2 at the stretch after putting up a two-spot in the top half of the inning, on an RBI pop-fly double by Jack Schaaf and an RBI single by Brad Jarreau.

The Braves pen almost literally couldn’t find the strike zone in the bottom of the seventh, walking the bases loaded with no outs. Ryan Gridley grounded to second to score T.J. Marik and reached on an error by Staunton second baseman Jordan Howard.

The Generals added runs in the inning when Michael Brosseau and Imani Willis were each hit by pitches thrown by reliever Garrett Cave.

The rally made a winner out of Waynesboro relief pitcher Jordan Harmon (3-0), despite Harmon being charged with two runs on three hits in his only inning of work.

Generals starter Will Montgomerie had a solid outing, going six innings, giving up a run on five hits, with five strikeouts and two walks, throwing 94 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Staunton starter Reed Hayes also deserved a better fate. Hayes gave up two runs on six hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Brosseau had three hits and an RBI for Waynesboro, which travels to Covington Friday night for the first game of a two-game road trip.
