wlogo2Jake Johnson was dominant on the mound, and his Charles Town Cannons took an easy 6-1 decision over the Waynesboro Generals on Saturday.

Johnson went eight innings, allowing one run on three hits to improve his 2013 record to 2-2.

The Generals were only able to scratch across a single run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Alex Mortensen (sophomore, Nebraska-Omaha).

Jeff Conley (junior, Alderson-Broaddus) took the loss for Waynesboro to fall to 0-4 on the season. Conley allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits in six innings, striking six and walking four.

Matt Durst homered in the third for Charles Town, his second home run of the season.

Waynesboro continues its four-game home stand Sunday against the Staunton Braves. It’s Bark in the Park Night sponsored by The News Virginian and the WSVA Game of the Week. The pregame show on 550AM begins at 6:30 p.m. with host Chris Graham and Generals head coach Mike Bocock. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
