Waynesboro Generals complete first-round Valley League playoff sweep
A seven-run fifth broke open a close game, and the Waynesboro Generals advanced to the second round of the 2014 Valley League playoffs with a 10-4 win over the Aldie Senators.
Zach Williamsen (5-4) got the win for #2 seed Waynesboro, giving up a run on five hits in five innings of work, striking out four and walking one.
Eugene Vasquez had the big hit of the game, a three-run triple in the fifth that pushed the Waynesboro lead to 8-1.
With the win, the Generals earn a night off, with all three remaining first-round VBL playoff series headed toward deciding Game 3s on Thursday night. Eighth-seeded Covington upset top seed Harrisonburg, 4-2, to extend that series to a third game. #4 Staunton defeated #5 Charles Town, 7-4, to keep its playoff hopes alive, and #3 seed Front Royal defeated #6 seed Strasburg, 7-5, to force Game 3 in their series.
