The Waynesboro Economic Development Office has been awarded an Innovation Grant from the Virginia Enterprise Initiative. Funds received will be used for a student entrepreneurial business proposal competition.

The Waynesboro Innovative Student Entrepreneur Competition will foster business and job creation and engage the community by identifying, funding, and mentoring a new generation of business people committed to revitalizing Downtown Waynesboro.

The WISE Competition will be marketed to students at regional colleges and universities. Students can submit an application outlining their business idea. Applications will be reviewed and finalists will be selected to move forward with developing and submitting a business proposal. Finalist will be given assistance and training to aid in developing their business plan.

Finalists will be required to give a five-minute presentation to the Waynesboro Economic Development Authority and the general public. Three awardees will be given $5,000 plus space in Downtown Waynesboro to launch their business.

Applications and more information can be found online at www.GrowWaynesboro.com. The deadline for submitting an application is November 23, 2012. Finalist will be notified by January 1, 2013.
