Washington tops Cubs, 7-5, in series opener

nationals_logoDanny Espinosa hit a three-run homer, and the Nats knocked out 12 hits against Cubs pitching in a 7-5 Washington win Friday night at Nationals Park.

Espinosa’s homer, his seventh of the season, staked the Nationals to an early 3-0 lead.

Anthony Rizzo homered twice for Chicago, his 10th and 11th of the season, off Washington starter Tanner Roark (2-2), and Jesus Montero hit a solo shot off Roark in the sixth.

Roark went five and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on six hits, with six strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Drew Storen recorded his 18th save despite giving up a run on two hits in the ninth.
