Washington Nationals top Atlanta Braves in extras

washington nationalsThe Washington Nationals won in extra innings on a night when they may have lost Stephen Strasburg.

A Wilson Ramos walk-off single pushed the Nats to a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves in a game that ended at 12:41 a.m. Thursday.

Strasburg returned from the disabled list on Wednesday and started the game for Washington (82-57), and looked solid in his first two innings on the mound, but left in the third after grimacing on three straight pitches.

It appeared that he was having issues with his right forearm, which was what had landed him on the DL last month after a run of three straight starts in which he had given up a total of 19 earned runs.

Strasburg struck out four and was charged with one earned run on two hits in two and a third innings, with strikes on 30 of his 42 pitches.

The Nats bullpen picked up the slack, holding the Braves to three runs on 11 hits over eight and two-thirds innings.

Daniel Murphy (.345/.388/.595, 25 HR, 100 RBI) was 3-for-6 with two RBIs in the win for Washington, which maintains an eight and a half game lead on the New York Mets in the NL East.

The magic number for the Nationals to clinch the division title is 15.
