vmiVMI Director of Athletics Dave Diles announced the hiring of Bridget Shanks as the director of tickets and marketing for VMI Athletics.

In her role, Shanks will oversee both the day-to-day and gameday operations of the athletics ticket office and serve as the main point of contact for the processing and reconciliation of tickets. In addition to overseeing the gameday ticketing personnel, she will provide assistance with marketing initiatives and with game management responsibilities.

Shanks comes to the Institute by way of nearby James Madison University where she served as a graduate assistant for the Duke Club since August 2016. In this capacity she provided operational support to a team of a full-time fundraising staff, managed the external operations of student giving programming, traveled as an on-site contact and department representative for student giving at off-campus events and served as the Duke Club social media coordinator responsible for content on Facebook and Twitter.

Other responsibilities at the Duke Club included serving as game day liaison between the Duke Club, JMU Athletics and other campus groups at the premium seating level of Bridgeforth Stadium and providing event support in both the planning and execution phases of expanding fundraising efforts through identification, solicitation and acquisition of new sponsors. She also gained experience using Paciolan ticketing and donor management software.

During her time in Harrisonburg, Shanks also served as an event manager for the Shenandoah Valley Football Classic in September 2017, a local high school football tournament held at Bridgeforth Stadium.

From July 2015 to April 2016, Shanks worked as an intern in the athletics ticket office for Villanova University where she gained experience in box office ticket sales, gameday ticket sales and will call operations.

As an undergraduate at the University of New Hampshire, Shanks took advantage of several opportunities to work in athletics by serving as a box office representative at the Whittemore Center as well as serving as an intern in the athletic development office. She also served as a member of the student athletics marketing team, executing all marketing operations for the men’s basketball program including promotions, sponsorship activation and advertising.

In addition to her many work responsibilities over the years, Shanks also has volunteer experience as she put in time at the 2016 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championship in Philadelphia as well as the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in San Antonio.

Shanks earned a bachelor of arts in communication and kinesiology with an emphasis in sport studies from New Hampshire in May 2015. She went on to earn a master’s degree in sport and recreation leadership from James Madison this past May.
