VMI baseball announces summer league placements
Two players will take part in the prestigious Cape Cod League in the northeast, as Matt Winn and Jordan Tarsovich will play for Harwich. The Cape Cod League is well-known for turning out major league players, and in during past years, as many as one out of every seven MLB players had seen time in the Cape.
One of the more interesting locations among the other summer leagues is the West Coast League, where the Keydets will send two players – Reed Garrett and Andrew Woods – to play for the first-year Yakima Valley Pippins out of Yakima, Wash.
Closer to home, Keydet fans can see several of their players in the Valley League, including starting shortstop Tanner Dofflemyer, who will play for New Market. Part-time designated hitter Josh Worthley will join classmate Will Malbon and right-handed pitcher Ryan Bennett, as all three will suit up for Woodstock. Micah Gorman, who will play for Waynesboro, rounds out the Valley League contingent.
The Coastal Plain League and Cal Ripken League will also see multiple Keydet players this summer. Ray Lopez, Jonathan Kelley and Jack Gomersall are all scheduled to play for Vienna in the Ripken League, while Taylor Edens and Austin Heenan will play for the CPL’s Peninsula Pilots. Thomas Stallings will join Edens and Heenan in that league, suiting up for the Petersburg Generals.
Finally, single players will be in the Hampton Collegiate League (Gary LeClair – South Hampton), the Atlantic Collegiate League (Brian Dudeck, Jr. – Trenton), American Legion (Blaine Lafin – Remington) and the Tidewater Summer League (Tyler Tharp – Tidewater Drillers).
