uva-basketball newSixth-ranked Virginia seems to be adjusting to the new rules changes put into effect before this season to push scoring. The Cavs went for 80+ for the fourth time in five games in an 83-66 win over George Mason to win the Charleston Classic championship Sunday night.

Mason (2-3) played with UVA (4-1) into the second half, trailing 47-39 at the break after shooting 53.6 percent from the floor.

An 8-0 Virginia run midway through the second half pushed the margin to 15, and the ‘Hoos led by double digits the rest of the way.

Malcolm Brogdon had his second 20+ point night of the season, putting in 21 on 9-of-16 shooting.

London Perrantes had 16 points and 11 assists for Virginia, which shot 57.1 percent (32-of-56) from the floor for the game.

Mason, which defeated Ole Miss and Oklahoma State to get to the championship game, got 16 points from Jaire Grayer and 11 points and eight rebounds from Shevon Thompson.
