Virginia Organizing comments on appeals court ruling on immigration

virginia-organizing new2The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an injunction to block implementation of executive orders on immigration, including Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook responded to this decision:

“Virginia Organizing is disappointed that the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has denied access to relief for undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and some undocumented youth who have grown up in our communities. We remain hopeful that the U.S. Supreme Court will decide in favor of keeping families together and in support of the great economic benefits of DAPA and DACA. Virginia Organizing still supports comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship and we believe that Congress should act and move forward with bipartisan legislation that will provide a path to citizenship for our community members that already call the U.S. their home.”
