virginia tennisThe Virginia men’s tennis team announced Wednesday (Feb. 3) that Aswin Lizen (Douglas, Isle of Man) has joined the program.

“Aswin Lizen is a great addition to our program,” said Virginia head coach Brian Boland. “He has the character, team attitude, academic background, humility and work ethic to have a tremendous influence on and off the court. The entire coaching staff is extremely excited to work with Aswin. We strongly believe he is going to have a long term positive impact in our program and everyone is so thrilled to have him wearing the orange and blue.”

Lizen was a member of the 2015 Great Britain European Championship team and competed in Junior Wimbledon in 2014. Last year, Lizen played in 38 Futures events across Europe and Northern Africa, with nine quarterfinal appearances in doubles, advancing to the semis in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt in April and the quarterfinals in singles in Castelo Branco, Portugal in July. Lizen was also the valedictorian of his graduating class at the E.S. International School in Barcelona, Spain.

Lizen will not compete this spring but will practice with the team.
