virginia footballSix Virginia Cavaliers have been named to the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Football Team, as announced by league commissioner John Swofford. The six honorees for UVA i the most for the program since 2004, the last time six Cavaliers earned ACC All-Academic accolades.

Sophomore Micah Kiser (Baltimore, Md.) leads the sextet as the inside linebacker becomes the first Cavalier since Heath Miller in 2004 to earn first-team All-ACC honors and All-ACC Academic honors in the same season. He is the first UVA defensive player to do so since Patrick Kerney in 1998. Kiser is the 27th Cavalier since 1954 to be a first-team All-ACC honoree and make the All-ACC Academic team. He is the 18th Cavalier to do so since 1990.

Punter Nicholas Conte (Roanoke, Va.), placekicker Ian Frye (Bristol, Va.), quarterback Matt Johns (Chalfont, Pa.), free safety Wilfred Wahee (Norfolk, Va.) and offensive guard Jay Whitmire (Alexandria, Va.) round out the other UVA honorees. It’s Wahee’s second nod on the All-ACC Academic team after appearing on the 2014 squad, while it’s the first career nod for the other five Cavaliers. Conte also earned All-ACC honors, being named to the honorable mention squad.

The ACC has selected an ACC All-Academic Team every year since 1954, and with the addition of the duo, UVA has had 215 Cavaliers earn such honors since the inception of the award.

To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. Graduate students needed to maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average for both the previous semester and for their graduate school careers. All 14 ACC schools were represented by at least two selections on the team.
