Virginia field hockey releases 2015 schedule

uva-logo-new2The Virginia field hockey team announced its 2015 schedule, with the Cavaliers slated to play seven regular-season games and two preseason scrimmages at University Hall Turf Field. Virginia will also host ACC Field Hockey Championships Nov. 4-7.

Admission will be free for all home scrimmages and regular-season field hockey games. Ticket pricing for the ACC Tournament will be announced at a later date.

Virginia, last season’s ACC regular-season co-champion, will face a tough schedule that features 12 teams that participated in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers’ home games include match-ups with Drexel (Aug. 28), Penn State (Aug. 30), Duke (Sept. 18), William & Mary (Sept. 21), North Carolina (Oct. 2) and Richmond (Oct. 4). The home slate ends with a Senior Weekend game on Oct. 24 against Boston College.

“We have an extremely challenging non-conference schedule again this year which helps prepare us for playing in the top-ranked conference in the nation,” said Virginia head coach Michele Madison. “We also have a very good balance of home and road opponents. I know our players are extremely excited to be playing in the ACC Tournament at Turf Field the first week of November. There is nothing like competing for a championship on your home field.”

Virginia will prepare for the regular-season slate with a pair of home preseason scrimmages against Kent State (Aug. 20) and Quinnipiac (Aug. 24).

The Cavaliers’ road schedule is highlighted by games at NCAA Tournament participants Princeton (Sept. 6), Louisville (Sept. 11), Syracuse (Sept. 25), Wake Forest (Oct. 9), Liberty (Oct. 15) and Delaware (Oct. 18) as well as featuring match-ups with in-state rivals Old Dominion (Oct. 11) and James Madison (Oct. 30).

The ACC Tournament will be held in Charlottesville for the seventh time. The Cavaliers, who have made six trips to the ACC Championship game, last hosted the tournament in 2009.

The 2015 Virginia squad returns its top six goal scorers from last season, including first-team All-American and ACC Freshman of the Year Tara Vittese, who scored 17 goals with 17 assists, as well as All-Region honorees Caleigh Foust and Lucy Hyams.
