Virginia farmers to help shape national Farm Bureau policies

congressVirginia representatives will join more than 5,000 Farm Bureau members from across the nation in helping shape policies important to farmers and ranchers Jan. 11-14 at the 2015 American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention.

The theme of the event is “Tradition, Perseverance, Vision: Farm Bureau Proud.” Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s seven voting delegates will join farmers from across the country in formulating policies related to promoting and marketing agricultural products, immigration reform and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency mandates on water and air quality. Other topics for discussion will include livestock damage caused by protected wildlife and truck weight allowances.

“These are issues that potentially affect all farmers and ranchers, so it’s important that Virginia representatives attend the national convention to help shape those policies,” said VFBF President Wayne F. Pryor. “It’s important for us to work with American Farm Bureau, because we rely on them to represent our interests in Congress.”

Farmers attending this year’s convention also will have the opportunity to attend workshops to help them improve their operations. Topics to be covered include improving field applications with technology, dealing with consumer skepticism over farming practices and using unmanned aerial vehicles to manage resources.
