Virgina tops BC: It was Malcolm Brogdon’s world

virginia malcolm brogdonVirginia senior Malcolm Brogdon was channeling Wally Szczerbiak. Remember that NCAA Tournament game where ol’ Wally had roughly half of the points scored total by both teams? That was Brogdon, by and large, in UVA’s 61-47 win over Boston College.

Brogdon had 17 in a first half that ended with the Cavs up 29-20, and finished with 27, a perfect fourth of the points on the scoreboard at game’s end.

It was a coolly efficient night for Brogs, too: he only needed 10 shots from the field to get his 27, which is ridiculous on a Steph Curry level.

Brogdon was 7-of-10 from the field, 5-of-5 on threes, 8-of-8 at the line.

You expected him to sink a 94-foot putt during a timeout promotion, the guy was so hot.

This on a night when his teammates could barely throw it in the ocean from the beach. The rest of the Cavs were a combined 10-of-32 from the field, and 4-of-13 from three.

Anthony Gill was the only other ‘Hoo in double figures, and he did his damage at the line, going 8-of-10 at the stripe and just 1-of-4 from the field.

The only stat line that was noticeably empty for Brogdon was the one under assists. Problem there wasn’t that he didn’t find open teammates, but rather that they couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities.

At least three teammates missed wide-open threes after Brogdon dashes into the lane and dishes to the perimeter.
