VDOT to hold info meeting on Afton Mountain safety system

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a citizen information meeting to discuss a proposed study on improving traffic safety and management systems for the section of Interstate 64, eastbound and westbound, that starts at mile marker 96 in Augusta County and extends to mile marker 107 in Albemarle County.

The primary purpose of the project is to improve safety during low visibility and adverse weather conditions on Afton Mountain. The proposed plan suggests the use of variable speed limit signs, roadway weather information systems, traffic cameras and electronic message boards.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Charles T. Yancey Municipal Building, 503 West Main Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.

Written comments about the project may be submitted at the meeting or until June 22, 2012, by mail to Mr. Sam Beydoun, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 600 East Main Street, Suite 2120, Richmond, VA, 23219. Comments may also be emailed to [email protected]. Please reference “I-64 Traffic Safety CIM Comment” in the subject line.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact Sam Beydoun at 804-786-0482 or TTY/TDD 711.
