road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 to 7, eastbound – Shoulder repairs and cleaning drop inlets. Wednesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for removing debris, trimming around signs, and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 159 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Brush cutting and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Brush cutting, patching  and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching, ditch work and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for bridge work over Cowardin Run. Work zone is 0.45 mile north of Route 618 to 0.55 miles north of Route 618.  Estimated completion Sept. 24, 2014.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, ditch work and shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches, and trimming around signs. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2, eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6, westbound – Left lane and left shoulder closures July 25 to Aug. 17 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.  Mile marker 55 to 53, westbound – Right lane closureJuly 25 to Aug.17 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Maury River Bridge rehabilitation project. Estimated completion is Oct. 6, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews tree trimming around signs, removing debris, cleaning bridge ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 193 to 190, southbound.  Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

Exit 200, northbound – Alternating lane closures for on-ramp and off-ramp paving. Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Mile marker 205.1 to 200.15, including ramp 200A, southbound – Alternating lane closures for pavement work.Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.  Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 39 (Maury River Road, Goshen Pass area) – Road closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily for slope reinforcement work at various locations. Route 39 will be open to two-way traffic at all other times. Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014. Detours:  Eastbound traffic should use Route 780 (Bratton’s Run) to Route 850 (West Midland Trail) to I-64 east to Lexington. Westbound traffic should use I-64 west to exit 43 to Route 850 (West Midland Trail) to Route 780 (Bratton’s Run) to Route 39.

Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, ditch work and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 622 (Whiteside Road– Road closed for culvert replacement under roadway. Estimated completion 5 p.m. July 29. Traffic will detour using Route 602 (Turkey Hill Road) and Route 624 (Maple Swamp Road).
Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, ditching and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing and guardrail weed-eating with a mobile operation.  Patching with flagger control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Mowing and guardrail weed-eating with a mobile operation.  Patching and ditch work with flagger control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work over I-81 interchange at Mile marker 222.  Monday toThursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 22, 2014.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews trimming around signs, removing debris, repairing  mile marker signs and cleaning ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 211 to 206, southbound – Alternating lane closures for nighttime pavement work. Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Mile marker 219 – Shoulder closure for bridge work on Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) overpass. Monday toThursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 220 – Shoulder closures as needed at exit 220 for bridge work at Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) overpass off I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 29, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 221– Shoulder closure for bridge work on Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) overpass.Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

(UPDATE) Exit 221, northbound and southbound– Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-64 interchange. Monday toThursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 22, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 228 to 238, northbound – Alternating lane closures for nighttime pavement work and guardrail upgrades, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11– Shoulder closures as needed for bridge work at Route 262 overpass (Woodrow Wilson Parkway, eastbound).  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 29, 2014.

Route 42 – Alternating lane closures for pavement work 0.27 mile south of Route 754 to just south of Route 809.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12 foot lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.04 mile west of Route 716 to 1.12 mile west of Route 716.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway)  – Bridge work at I-81 and Route 11 overpasses.  Monday toThursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 29, 2014.

Route 262 – Alternating lane closures with flagger operations for pavement work starting 0.28 miles west of Route 11, eastbound to Route 252. Includes ramps at Route 252, Route 703, Route 254 and Route 250. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 340 – Right shoulder closures as needed at various locations, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for fiber optic installation from Route 11/Greenville to the Augusta/Rockingham County Line. Estimated completion Dec. 31, 2014.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Intersection work from Route 654  to Route 831. Traffic signal at Route 657 intersection may be disabled during flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completionAug. 6, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 603 (Hewitt Road) – Road closed beginning July 28 for soil/rock testing for future Eidson Creek Bridge replacement. The work zone is approximately .03 mile west of intersection Route 703 and Route 708. Traffic will detour around work zone daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. as follows: Route 876 (Swoope Road) to 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike), then Route 708 (Miss Phillips Road) back to Route 703. Estimated completion of testing August 1.

Route 604 (McClures Mill Road near Greenville) – Road closed for bridge replacement at Christians Creek.  Estimated completion Aug. 26, 2014. Work zone is 0.27 mile from Route 817 (Hawpe Road) and 0.01 mile to route 817 (Spring Leigh Road). A detour is in place with posted signs.

(UPDATE) Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge repairs on Route 635 over I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 647 (Christians Creek Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge repairs on Route 647 over I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 22, 2014.

(NEW) Route 703 (Hewitt Road) – Road closed beginning July 28 for soil/rock testing for future Eidson Creek Bridge replacement. Route 759 – Periodic road closures for Rural Rustic Road construction project.  Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m. between Route 761 and Route 756 (Buck Hill Road).  Posted detours will be in place using Route 756 to Route 730 to Route 761.  Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and hand mowing. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Exit 251, northbound and southbound – Lane closures begin again August 4, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. at I-81 exit 251 on- and off-ramps.  Ramp widths restricted to 10’ for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Aug. 28, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 11 from intersection of I-81 exit 251 to Route 259 – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion August 1.

Route 11 – Lane closures begin again August 4 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. at I-81 exit 251 on- and off-ramps.  Ramp widths restricted to 10’ for overnight guardrail installation. Estimated project completion Aug. 28, 2014.

Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 256 (Third Street, Town of Grottoes) – Road closed 7 a.m. July 28 to 5 p.m. July 30 for repairs to the railroad crossing just west of Route 340 (Eastside Highway).  Traffic will detour using Third Street to Aspen Avenue to Cary Street to Route 340.

Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Oakwood Drive, Bridgewater area) – Cooks Creek bridge is now open with periodic flagging operations for line painting and construction-vehicle access as needed. Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – Motorists should be alert for shoulder closures and occasional flagger controlled lane closures on the Route 280 Southeast Connector project. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 745 (Martin Miller Road) – Pipe work from Route 257 (Ottobine Road) to Route 744 (Dry Hollow Road). Periodic, short duration closures, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Follow posted detours.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 759 (Jollett Road) – Roadway restricted to 11’2” widths during bridge replacement. Traffic controlled by temporary signal.  Work zone 0.50 miles east of Route 607 (Weaver Road). Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, cleaning paved ditches and hand mowing. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound.  Nighttime right lane closures at various locations July 28 to July 31, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. and August 1, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. for milling and paving.  Estimated completion Aug. 28, 2014.

Mile marker 280 to 273, southbound. Nighttime left lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving. Estimated completion Jan. 15, 2015.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Town of Strasburg) – Flagger controlled lane closures for paving operations from Capon Street to Route 55, weather permitting.  Estimated completion August 1.

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 263 from Route 42 to 6.45 miles west of Route 42  – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion August 1.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stoney Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder work, dust control applications, pipe cleaning and replacement.  Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, brush cutting and mowing. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 from Winchester County Line to Clarke County Line – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion August1.

(NEW) Route 11 – Line painting in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Work will be completed by the August 1.

(NEW) Route 50 from end of four-lane to Route 688 – Reflective pavement marker eplacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Work will be completed by the August 1.

(NEW) Route 277 from Route 11 to Route 522 – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion August 1.

(NEW) Route 522 from Winchester County Line to West Virginia Line – Reflective pavement marker replacement/inspection in both directions. Work will occur mostly during daylight hours utilizing a mobile work zone. Estimated completion August 1.

Route 522 – Shoulder closures northbound lane for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Oct. 1, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 – Flagger controlled lane closures for nighttime paving operations, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.Shoulder closures due to turn lane and entrance construction between Route 846 (Rutherford Lane) and Route 37. Estimated completion August 1.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder work, dust control applications, pipe cleaning.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

WARREN COUNTY

 

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 6, eastbound – Mobile lane closures for line painting operations  8 p.m. to 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 1.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning paved ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) – Blasting operations begin Monday, July 28 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. daily until August 11 from Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) to 0.34 miles north.  Expect delays of up to 1 hour each day during blasting operations.  Also be alert for message boards and flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for replacement of low water bridge over South Fork of Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Estimated completion October 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Asphalt patching.  Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
