VDOT: Shenandoah Avenue in Elkton to close May 4-8 for railroad crossing work

road-work-headerShenandoah Avenue (Route 1706) in the Rockingham County town of Elkton will be closed to through traffic from Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8 for railroad crossing maintenance. Drivers will have access to commercial and residential properties on both sides of the rail line, but the crossing will be closed 24 hours a day until the work is complete.

The following detours will guide motorists around the work zone:

  • Drivers approaching from the south will follow Route 33 Business (Old Spotswood Trail) east and Route 340 (Stuart Avenue) north to return to Shenandoah Avenue.
  • Drivers approaching from the north will follow Route 340 (Eastside Highway) south and Route 33 Business (Old Spotswood Trail) west to return to Shenandoah Avenue.

All work is weather permitting.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511 and at 511Virginia.org. For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Citizens can dial 1-800-FOR- ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
