road work transportationThe Virginia Department of Transportation is closing one lane on a two-lane bridge on Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) in Alleghany County. This location is approximately mid-way on Route 159 between Route 600 (Midland Trail) and Route 311 (Kanawha Trail).

Crews will perform bridge work at this location during the coming week. Traffic will be controlled with stop and proceed signs. Motorists should drive with caution and ensure no traffic is on the bridge before entering the travel lane.

Scour has occurred around a bridge abutment due to recent flooding. Scour is the removal of rocks and sediment from a bridge abutment area, often from swift or flooding waters.

All flooded roads have reopened in Alleghany County.  VDOT is not reporting any road closures in this area.
