VDOT roads report: Dec. 9-13

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 1.5 to West Virginia state line, westbound – Shoulder and lane closures, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for slope repairs. Estimated completion mid-January.

Mile marker 9.6, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures and right shoulder closures as needed for bridge repair over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning paved ditches, bridge slopes, under guardrails, removing debris, and shoulder repairs. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 42 – Flagger controlled alternating lane closures. December 12, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for bridge inspection over CSX Railroad and service road. 

Various roads – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 – Flagger controlled lane closures for I-64 bridge repairs over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pipe cleaning, brush cutting and ditching with flagger traffic control and pilot truck,Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe cleaning, pothole repairs, brush cutting and ditching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches, repairing mile marker signs and removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 195 (Timber Ridge area) – All northbound traffic will be detoured off I-81 at exit 195 and onto Route 11 north on Thursday, December 12, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Traffic will follow detour signs to Route 710 (Sterrett Road), and back onto I-81 at exit 200. This closure will be used to complete bridge work on the Truck Climbing Lane project.

(UPDATE) Mile markers 198 to 201.5, northbound – Right and center lane closures December 9-11, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. to complete milling and paving in this area of the Truck Climbing Lane project.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Ditching, tree removal, pipe replacement and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, shoulder repairs and ditching with traffic control by mobile operation. Trash pickup with signs for traffic control. Mondayto Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Daytime lane closures Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day for bridge work as part of the I-81 Truck Climbing Lane project. Route 710 traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane while crews work on the I-81 bridge deck. In addition, flaggers will temporarily hold traffic at various times during the work day as needed.

Various roads – Ditching, grading, tree removal brush cutting and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Trash pickup with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – Ditching with flagger traffic control weekdays, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various roads – Brush cutting and patching potholes with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile markers signs, cleaning paved slopes/ditches and under guardrails. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville area with project-related work on Stover School Road, Church Street View Street, Palmer Street, Graham Street, Blacksmith Shop Road, Old Staunton Road as needed) – Northbound intermittent lane closures for sewer project. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 662 (Stover School Road) – One lane closure as needed from Route 11 to View Street. Flaggers and signs in place to assist motorist. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

Route 916 (View Street) – Lane closures as needed for shoulder repair, from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south.  Estimated completion Dec. 30 2013.

Route 1201 (Graham Street) – Possible lane closure for sewer work and tree removal in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

Route 1204 (Blacksmith Shop Road) – Possible lane closure for sewer work in Route 11 area. Estimated completionDec. 30, 2013.

Route 1206 (Old Staunton Road) – Possible lane closure for sewer work in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and hand mowing. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday toFriday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 276 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector in county. Shoulder closures controlled by signs. Possible lane closures controlled by flaggers. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2014.

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and mile post replacements. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday toFriday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 and Route 42 (Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 663 (Artz Road) – Alternating single lane closures for bridge work over the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. December 11-13, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.  Traffic controlled by flaggers and traffic signs 0.6 miles east of intersection of Artz Road/Route 663 and Old Valley Pike/Route 11 to 0.08 miles east of the intersection. Estimated completion December 13, weather permitting.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and mile post replacements. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday toFriday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Siler Road) – Flagger traffic control from route 522 (North Frederick Pike) to Route 690 (Howards Chapel Road) for pavement work. Estimated completion Dec. 13, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 642 (Tasker Road) – Lane and shoulder closures at intersection with route 636 (White Oak Road) for installation of new traffic signal. Flagger controlled traffic 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 20, 2013.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 14.7, westbound and eastbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and mile post replacements. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 340 (Town of Front Royal) – Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., center lane closures, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., nightly closures, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday – Friday for utility relocations. Work zone from Duck Street to 17th Street. Estimated completion spring 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 mile north. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
