road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing guardrail markers, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Lane closures as needed for pothole patching and cleaning bridge decks.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 19 to 17, eastbound and westbound –Lane closures as needed for sweeping barrier wall and drop inlets. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 42 – Alternating right and left lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from I-64 east Ramp 29A to the Bath/Alleghany county line. Estimated completion December 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 220 – Alternating right and left lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from the start of Route 220 Business to 0.80 south of Clifton Forge city limits. Estimated completion December 2014.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

Various roads – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 39, east – Flagger controlled traffic on various routes between Route 600 north to Route 621 north for pavement work, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Estimated completion May 2, 2014.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for bridge work over Cowardin Run. Work zone is 0.45 mile north of Route 618 to 0.55 miles north of Route 618.  Estimated completion Sept. 24, 2014.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs with a mobile operation. Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches. Lane closures as needed for pothole patching. Monday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2 eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6 westbound – Possible lane and shoulder closures for the Maury River bridges rehabilitation project. 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Estimated completion is October 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge deck cleaning,Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and ditches, repairing mile marker and guardrail markers. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 199 to 201, northbound – All northbound lanes of I-81 will be closed for nighttime bridge work at mile marker 199 to 201 on Friday, April 25, from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m., Saturday.  All northbound traffic will be detoured off the interstate at the off-ramp of exit 200 (Fairfield area) and back onto I-81 via the on-ramp at exit 200.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 195 to 201, northbound – Overnight closure of right and center lanes closures for paving operations on the Truck Climbing Lane project. Work scheduled for April 21 through the morning of April 25, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night, weather permitting.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205.1 to 200.15 – Alternating right and left lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement work. Work zone includes Ramp 200A. Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 Bypass on-ramp (South Lee Highway Bypass) – Nighttime closure of on-ramp at Route 60 (East Midland Trail) April 27 to April 30, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, for brush cutting work.

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Alternating right and left lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work. Work zone the Rockbridge/Augusta county line to Fairfield. Estimated completion December 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 39 – Alternating right and left lane closures, Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work. Work zone extends from 0.41 mile east of Route 732 to Route 11. Estimated completion December 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 60 – Alternating right and left lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from the south end of the bridge over I-64 to west of Lexington city limit Estimated completion December 2014.

Various roads – Brush cutting, pipe replacement, shoulder repairs, sweeping intersections and bridges, ditching with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, trash pickup and hand mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Single lane closures for soil testing work at intersection with Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Traffic controlled by signs and flaggers. April 21 and 228 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Brush cutting, pipe replacement, shoulder repairs, sweeping intersections and bridges, ditching with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, grading, trash pickup and hand mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 84 – Tree trimming/removal at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 220 – Pothole repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 250 – Tree trimming/removal at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 614 (Headwaters area) – Single lane closure with a 10-foot road width limit for bridge deck replacement over the South Fork South Branch of Potomac River.  April 21 through May 23, 2014. Work zone is 0.07 mile south of Route 620 (Brushy Fork Road) and 0.01 mile north of Route 620 (Spring Run Road). Daytime flagger traffic control and nighttime stop and proceed when clear.

Route 640 (Blue Grass Valley Road) – Tree trimming at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday 7:30 to 3 p.m.

Various roads – Pothole patching, shoulder repairs and ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Exit 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-81 interchange. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion May 30, 2014.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight lane closures as needed for bridge deck cleaning.Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Lane closures for pothole patching, as needed, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile marker and guardrail marker signs, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 214 to 213, southbound – Right shoulder closures and possible left lane closures during overnight hours for overhead sign construction. Expected completion is April 30, 2014.

Mile marker 219 to 217, southbound – Lane closure for nighttime pavement work. Sunday to Thursday, 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Exit 221, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-64 interchange. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion May 30, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 222, northbound – Nighttime lane closure, April 21, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. April 22 for bridge deck repairs. All work is weather permitting.

(NEW) Mile marker 228 to 234, northbound – Right shoulder closures for guardrail upgrades and shoulder restoration.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway, Town of Greenville) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed with flagging operations from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 1202 (Church Street) for paving and curb installation as part of sanitary sewer project. Monday to Friday, weather permitting. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

Route 42 – Alternating lane closures for pavement work 0.27 mile south of Route754 to 0.04 mile south of Route 809.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Route 250 – Flagging operations for work zone 1.036 mile west of Route 716 to 1.124 mile west of Route 616 for Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement. Shoulder work and installation of temporary signal, April 22 to 26, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Intersection work from Route 654 to Route 831. Traffic signal at Route 657 intersection may be disabled during flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completionAug. 6, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 662 (Stover School Road) – Shoulder closures and possible single lane closure from Route 11 to Route 916 (View Street) for seeding work as part of sanitary sewer project. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 733 (Moffett Brand Road) – Bridge closure over Elk Run, located 0.6 mile north of Route 734 (Hupman Road) near Churchville.  A temporary replacement bridge is scheduled to open by May 2, 2014, weather permitting.  Detours until the temporary bridge is open:  Southbound traffic will detour west onto Route 835 (Dudley Farm Road), south on Route 736 (Union Church Road) and east on Route 734 to Route 733.  Northbound traffic will detour west on Route 734, north on Route 736 and east on Route 835 to Route 733.

(UPDATE) Route 916 (View Street) – Possible single lane closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south for seeding work as part of the sewer project. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 1201 (Palmer Street) – Possible lane closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) to Route 1201 (Graham Street) for seeding work as part of sewer project. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Pen Apple Lane – Road closed from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for related sewer project work. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) The Banner Road – Road closed from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for related sewer project work. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Cut-Thru Road – Road closed from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for related sewer project work. Estimated completion May 10, 2014.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and cleaning of paved ditches. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Oakwood Drive – Bridgewater area) – Traffic will be diverted onto temporary two-lane bridge over Cooks Creek. Periodic flagging for construction vehicle access. Work zone from 0.70 mile west of Route 712 to 0.58 mile west of route 712. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector in county. Shoulder closures controlled by signs. Possible lane closures controlled by flaggers. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

(NEW) Route 748 (Thomas Spring Road)  – Road closed to through traffic on April 23, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Route 763 (Mt. Clinton Pike) to Route 766 (Eversole Road) for repairs. Detour provided; follow detour signage.

(NEW) Route 910 (Switchboard Road) – Road closed to through traffic April 21 and 22, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., from Route 870 (Wright Lane) to Route 613 (Spring Creek Road) for repairs. Detour provided; follow detour signage.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Nighttime right lane closures at various locations as needed for underdrain installation. April 22 to April 24, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. each night.  Estimated completion May 1, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Right shoulder closures at various locations as needed for outlet pipe installation. April 22, noon to 5 p.m. and April 23 to 25, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion May 2, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 280 to 274, southbound – Right shoulder closures for guardrail upgrades and shoulder restoration.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 11 and Route 42 (Town of Woodstock) – New intersection construction at East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and crossover repairs. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 37 (J Kenneth Robinson Highway), northbound and southbound – Alternating right lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection over Conrail Railroad (Winchester and Western Railroad) and Redbud Run. Tuesday, April 22, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 37 – Route 11 and Route 50.  Single lane closure 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for crack sealing operations. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion is April 28, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Mile marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and cross over repairs. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340 (Town of Front Royal) – Utility relocations from Duck Street to 17th Street. Lane closures Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; center turn-lane closures, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; nightly closures, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Estimated completion spring 2014.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street –Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

(NEW) Various roads – Sweeping curbs and gutters. Monday to Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Grading and pothole patching. Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
