vdot logoThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 29 over Route 639, eastbound and westbound. Bridge repairs with intermittent flagger controlled lane closure on Route 639. Work zone is 1.22 miles from Route 60 and to .53 miles of Route 42. Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Estimated completion May 24, 2013, weather permitting.

* (NEW) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Tree removal, Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal, clean bridge deck, ditches, shoulders, ramps and median. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 220 – Road closure between Routes 684 and 640 (about 3 miles north of Covington city limits) for drainage pipe repairs. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion by end of May.

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Fiber optic cable installations both underground and above ground. Work will include shoulder closures and occasional lane closures. Work zone between the West Virginia Line at Sweet Springs and Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) and then continuing on Route 311 north to Route 601 (Tuckahoe Road), then continuing on Route 601 to the West Virginia Line. Estimated work completed June, 2013.

* Various roads – Ditching, mowing and patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 633 – Replacement of Cowpasture River bridge and approaches. Traffic is now being directed onto new bridge. Traffic will run on stone roadway from 1.14 miles south of Route 634 to 1.20 miles south of Route 634. Be alert for flagger traffic control. Estimated completion is May 17, 2013. * Route 647 – Pavement work from intersection with Hattie Street to intersection with Horse Mountain View and Mall Road.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 792 – Pavement work from intersection with Horse Mountain View to intersection with Mallow Road.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Ditching, mowing and patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Pothole repairs, sweeping and mowing. Flagger traffic control as needed, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Grading, sweeping, mowing and pothole repairs, Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound. Tree removal. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound. Debris removal and cleaning of bridge decks, ditches, shoulders, ramps and medians. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 56 to 57, eastbound.  Single lane closure for bridge inspection. Monday, May 13, 8 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Tree removal. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and cleaning of bridge decks, ditches, shoulders, ramps and medians. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 180.8, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 7.

* Mile marker 190 to 195, northbound and southbound – Brush cutting with shoulder closures during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Mile marker 191 to 192, northbound.  Single lane closure for bridge inspection. Monday, May 13, 12:00 noon to 4 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195 to 198, northbound left lane closures. Truck Climbing Lane project – Paving operations. Monday, May 13 to Thursday, May 16, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Various locations. Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Wednesday to Friday, 8 p.m to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation north of Route 39. Estimated completion end of May.

* Route 11 at I-81 Fancy Hill Exit 180.  Flagger controlled southbound lane closure as needed for I-81 bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 7.

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation south of I-81 Exit 195. Estimated completion end of May.

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation north of Natural Bridge. Estimated completion end of May.

* Route 11 – Paving work from intersection with Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to intersection with Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 60 over I-64 at Exit 50 – Bridge Repair. Work zone from .4 miles to Route 850 and .05 miles to Route 623. Estimated completion May 17.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is Dec. 2013.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Ditching, mowing, weed-eating, pothole repairs, sweeping intersections and pipe replacement. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) – Single lane closure with flagger traffic control for waterline replacement project. Work area is between Route 11 and Lincoln Road.  Estimated completion mid-June.

* Route 706 (Bordon Grant Trail) intersection with Route 714 (Mackey’s Lane) – Safety Improvement Project.  Flagger traffic control daylight hours, May 13 to May 17, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Route 714 (Mackey’s Lane) intersection with Route 706 (Bordon Grant Trail) – Safety Improvement Project.  Flagger traffic control daylight hours, May 13 to May 17, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Route 728 (Poorhouse Hill Road) – Road closure May 13 to May 17 for tunnel maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.  Work zone from .53 miles west or Route 645 (Valley Pike) and .62 miles east of Route 622 (Reid Road).  Detour Route 645 north to Route 11, Route 11 north to Route 716 (Mt. Atlas Road), west on Route 716 to Route 622 (Reid Road) and south on Reid Road back to Route 728.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing, weed-eating, pothole repairs, patching, sweeping intersections, grading, ditching, tree removal and pipe replacement. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Route 220 – Shoulder repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. * Various roads – Street sweeping and pothole repairs, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m.to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 614 south (Cowpasture River Road) – Lane closure .5 miles north of Route 613 for slope repairs.

* Route 614 north (Cowpasture River Road) – Ditching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 678 north (Bullpasture River Road) – Ditching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 678 – Shoulder closure for shoulder improvement project. Work zone 1.37 miles south from Route 615 and 1.93 north miles to Route 612. Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with flagger traffic control. Estimated completion May 24.

* Various roads – Pothole repairs and street sweeping with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64 * (UPDATE) Mile marker 96 to 106 on Afton Mountain, eastbound and westbound – Left lane and right and left shoulder closures for installation of rock safety fencing and cable barrier/guardrail. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., seven days a week until completion, estimated for May 24, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 100.3 (Albemarle County) to Exit 96 (Augusta County) – Traffic will be restricted in both directions between Charlottesville (Albemarle County) and Waynesboro (Augusta County) for 30 to 45 minutes at various times throughout the day while unstable soil is removed from Afton Mountain slope above the roadway. Work will take place Monday to Thursday, weather permitting, and continue until work is completed.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205.5 to 237, northbound and southbound. Tree removal. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 205.5 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and cleaning of bridge decks, ditches, shoulders, ramps and medians. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Various locations. Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Wednesday to Friday, 8 p.m to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville), northbound and southbound – Single lane closure northbound for sewer construction, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion is November 30, 2013.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Installation of sanitary line and waterline at various locations on Delphine Ave., with retaining wall placement along Delphine Ave. to 4th Street. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Work is Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 698 (Wise Hollow Road) – Road construction from Route 690 (Summit Church Road) to the Rockingham County Line. Flagger controlled traffic Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Estimated completion July 31.

* Route 748 (Flint Hill Road) – Road construction west of Mt. Sidney, from Route 626 (Seawright Springs Road) to Route 696 (Sidney Gap Road). Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* Route 1050 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 1316 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) cul-de-sac. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Various locations. Vegetation management with mobile lane closures. Wednesday to Friday, 8 p.m to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 33 onto Route 829 (Independent Road/Mt. Harmon Road).  Alternate lane closures for turn lane extensions. West of Elkton. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by signs, arrow boards and other traffic control devices.  May 13 to May 17.

* Route 42 (North Main Street) at the intersection of Route 617 (Church Street) in the town of Timberville.  Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing May 13 to May 24, Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 617 – Be alert for bridge painting operation over the Tide Spring Branch. May 13 to May 19, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

* (UPDATE) Route 672 (McGaheysville Road to Lawyer Road) – Installation of ditches. May 13 through May 17, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Flagging operations as needed. Expect some delays. Estimated completion September 20, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 708 (Goods Mill Road) – Road closure for bridge replacement over Congers Creek, May 28 to June 5, weather permitting. Project location is .03 miles east of the intersection of Route 708 and Route 676 (Charlie Town Road) and .30 miles west of the intersection of Route 708 and Route 676 (Oak Shade Road).

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.

* (NEW) Route 817 – Be alert for bridge painting operation over Shoemaker River. May 13 to May 19, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

* Route 918 (Mill Street) will be temporarily closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Road

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.40 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.50 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Motorists should use extreme caution and obey posted speed limit. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 611 – Be alert for bridge painting operation over Chub Run. May 13 to May 19, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Route 691 (Dellinger Acres Road in the Mt. Jackson area). Road closure May 6 at 8 a.m. until May 17, 3:30 p.m. for bridge deck replacement. Traffic will be detoured as follows:

Westbound traffic will use Route 42 North (Senedo Road) to route 779 West (Ridge Hollow Road). Eastbound traffic will use Route 779 East (Ridge Hollow Road) to Route 42 South (Senedo Road).

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 – Paving operations .36 miles north of Route 601 (Funk Road) to .3 miles north of Route 639 (Green Acre Drive). Flagger controlled traffic, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion May 31, 2013.

* Route 42 (Senedo Road) – Paving operations. Work zone from Route 263 (Orkney Grade) to Route 728 (Kibler Road). Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot truck. Estimated completion May 17, 2013.

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 691 (Dellinger Acres Road, Mt. Jackson area) – Closed May 13 for bridge repairs .55 miles west of Route 42 (Senedo Road).  Estimated completion May 24, weather permitting. Westbound traffic will use Route 42 north (Senedo Road) to Route 779 west (Ridge Hollow Road). Eastbound traffic will use Route 779 east (Ridge Hollow Road) to Route 42 south (Senedo Road).

* Route 629 – Pavement work from intersection of Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to intersection at Main Street. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 310 to 318, northbound and southbound- Single lane closures for bridge repairs. May 13 through May 17, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 317, northbound – Extend deceleration lane at Exit 317. Night time right lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and daytime shoulder closures. Estimated completion is November 2013.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 – Turn lane construction between Route 671 and Route 688.  Shoulder and occasional lane closures.  Work is Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Estimated completion is May 15, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 50 – Alternating lane closures – Guardrail replacement. .56 miles west of Route 733 to .03 miles west of Route 752.  May 13 to 17, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 7, westbound – Alternating lane closures for paving operations. Work zone from Shenandoah River bridge to .01 miles west of Route 612 north (Castleman Road). Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion May 17, 2013.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 601 (Old Blue Ridge Road) – Paving operations. Work zone from Route 7 to .12 miles north of Route 650 (Mount Weather Road). Flagger traffic control with pilot truck. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion May 17, 2013.

* Route 645 (Wright’s Mill Road) will close on Monday, May 13 for bridge deck repairs. Estimated completion is May 24, weather permitting. Northbound traffic will detour using Route 7 east (Harry Byrd Highway) to Route 635 north (Pierce Road) to Route 660 west (Russell Road) to Route 645.  Southbound traffic will use Route 660 east (Russell Road) to Route 635 south (Pierce Road) to Route 7 east (Harry Byrd Highway) to Route 645.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

Secondary Roads

* Route 631 (Gooney Manor Loop) from Route 613 to 1.90 south of Route 632. Flagger traffic control for road grading and surface treatment. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion July 26, 2018.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.
