road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and ditch cleaning. Be alert for roadside work.Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 7 to 16, eastbound and westbound – Cleaning bridge slopes. Be alert for roadside work. Wednesday toFriday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 28 to 29, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge inspection under CSX Railroad. July 16, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 38 to 41, westbound – Shoulder repairs with lane closures as needed. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Fiber optic cable installations both underground and above ground. Work will include shoulder closures and occasional lane closures. Work zone between the West Virginia Line at Sweet Springs and Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) and then continuing on Route 311 north to Route 601 (Tuckahoe Road), then continuing on Route 601 to the West Virginia Line. Estimated completion end of July 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mall Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

* Various roads – Pipe installation and patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Brush-cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Grading, patching, pipe replacement and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. * Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and cleaning bridge slopes. Be alert for roadside work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 195, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, tree trimming around signs and cleaning bridge slopes. Be alert for roadside work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 177, southbound – Single lane closure for removal of hazardous trees. July 17, 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 177.2 northbound – Right shoulder closure for repairs to bridge over Route 692 and Cedar Creek.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 2, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 180.8, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Also southbound I-81 left exit ramp narrows.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 2, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195 to 197 – northbound,  left lane closure Sunday, July 14, for sign installation, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Mile marker 199 to 201- northbound, right lane closure Monday, July 15, for pavement marking, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. – Truck climbing lane project.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 at I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill).  Flagger-controlled lane closures for repairs to I-81 bridge. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 19, 2013.

* Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is December 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing operations with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 631 (Furrs Mill Road) – Closed on Tuesday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 17 for a pipe replacement. The road will be closed from Route 1125 (High Meadow Drive) to Route 769 (Beans River Bottom).  Drivers can use Route 631 to Route 60 (West Midland Trail) as an alternate route.

* Route 692 — Repairs to I-81 bridge. Flagger controlled lane closures as needed. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion August 2, 2013.

* Route 757 (Stoney Run Road) will be closed on July 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a pipe replacement. The work zone will be from 0.51 mile south of Route 806 (Riverside Road) and 0.65 mile north of Route 631 (Long Hollow Road.) Alternate rain dates are July 18 or 19.

* Various roads – Grading, ditching, brush-cutting, patching and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Mowing operations with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 607 (Big Valley Road) – pipe cleaning with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – Pavement patching and pipe installation with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 634 (Halterman Hollow Lane) – Pavement patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 649 (Myer-Moon Road) – Pavement patching with flagger traffic control. Work will take place Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

* Route 678 – Box culvert bridge replacement over Crab Run near McDowell. Work zone 1.37 miles south of Route 615 and 1.93 miles from the bridge north to Route 612.  Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday toFriday. Estimated completion Aug. 2, 2013.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 90 to 96 – Left and right shoulder closures for guardrail removal and replacement. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Mile marker 96 to 106 on Afton Mountain, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures for completion of rock safety fencing and cable barrier/guardrail. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expected completion July 19, 2013.

 

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and cleaning ditches and bridge slopes. Be alert for roadside work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) – Left and right lane closures within 0.5 miles north of Route 750 and 0.29 miles north of Route 256 for paving operations and line painting. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville) – Northbound lane closures for sewer work and seeding, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Estimated completion August 2, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway) – Center lane closure July 15-20 from Greenville to 1.5 miles north for shoulder repair and hydro seeding.

* Route 250, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for paving from Route 636 to Waynesboro city limits. Flagger traffic control. Sunday to Saturday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 340 – Left and right lane closures between and area north of Waynesboro county line and 0.81 miles south of Route 619 – Paving operations and line painting. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 358 (Woodrow Wilson Avenue) – Closed for grading, paving and sidewalk work from Route 880 (James Anderson Road) to Route 887 (Vance Lane). Traffic will be detoured. Estimated completion Sept. 6, 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 613 – Surface treatment of pavement. July 15 to July 19. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle.

* (UPDATE) Route 662 (Greenville School Road) – East of the intersection with Route 1205 – single lane closure for patching on Main Street for 1.0 mile, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 20, 2013. * Route 698 (Wise Hollow Road) – Road construction from Route 690 (Summit Church Road) to the Rockingham County line. Flagger control Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 701 (Howardsville Road) between Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) –  Right shoulder closures with possible single lane closures – installation of right turn lane for C. Layman Subdivision. Monday – Friday, 8.a.m. to 5.p.m.  Estimated completion Aug. 31, 2013.

* Route 748 (Flint Hill Road) – Road construction west of Mount Sidney, from Route 626 (Seawright Springs Road) to Route 696 (Sidney Gap Road). Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Estimated completion July 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* (NEW) Route 754 – Resurfacing project that will include pipe installation, construction of new ditch lines, grading of surfaces and paving operations – Shoulder and lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers. August 1 to Nov. 15, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 764 – Surface treatment of pavement. July 15 to July 19. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle.

* (NEW) Route 765 – Surface treatment of pavement. July 15 to July 19. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle.

* Route 818 (Dunsmore Road, Verona) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control. Estimated completion October 2013.

* Route 828 (Cattle Scales Road) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013. * Route 1050 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 1205 (Main Street, Greenville) – Road closed for sewer construction between Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) and Route 1207 (Wright Lane), 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 20, 2013.

* Route 1316 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 1510 (Stuart Avenue, Stuarts Draft) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013.

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 237-264 – Northbound and southbound. Debris removal and trimming around signs. Be alert for roadside work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Sidewalk construction from Route 701 (Cooks Creek Road) to Route 726 (Erickson Avenue). Flagger-controlled lane closures. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Aug. 2, 2013.

* Route 42 (North Main Street) at Route 617 (Church Street) in Timberville – Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* Route 253 (Port Republic Road), eastbound and westbound – Left lane closure for median work between Harrisonburg city limits and Route 726 (Stone Spring Road). Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion August 1, 2013.

* Route 259 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion end of summer.

* Route 331 (Bluestone Drive, Harrisonburg) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for pavement marking, Work zone is from Port Republic Road to South Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane  closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

* (UPDATE) Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Road closure for bridge replacement over War Branch. Traffic will detour via Route 798 (Arkton Road) to Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road). Work zone is 0.55 miles north of Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) and Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road) and 1.85 miles south of Route 620 and Route 798 (Arkton Road).  Estimated completion July 19, 2013.

* Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Road closed to through traffic from McGaheysville Road to Lawyer Road (1.275 miles) for road demolition and reconstruction. One lane will remain open for property owners and residents only. No through traffic. Expect delays. Work this week will run Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion September 2013.

* (NEW) Route 704 – Surface treatment of pavement. July 15 to July 19. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle.

* Route 726 (Stone Spring Road/Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector. Possible shoulder closures controlled by signs, from 0.512 miles east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.149 miles west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge work from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.  Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 730 – Surface treatment of pavement. July 15 to July 19. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle.

* (NEW) Route 766 – Surface treatment of pavement. July 15 to July 19. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle.

* Route 918 (Mill Street) will be temporarily closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming and brush clearing around signs. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 – Eastbound lane closures for paving operations from Route 646 (Ganders Drive) to Luray town limits. Sunday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 211 – Eastbound lane closures for nighttime paving from south fork of Shenandoah River bridge to Luray town limits. July 14 to 23, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

* Route 211 – Lane closures for milling and paving, from Rappahannock County line to 4 miles west of Rappahannock County Line. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion is July 31, 2013.

* Route 340 – New traffic pattern as part of the bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway. Traffic has been routed onto new section of roadway, 0.1 mile south of Route 663 (Island Ford Road) to 0.16 mile south of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road). Expect daily lane closures and 24-hour shoulder closures. Estimated completion for bridge work is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 615, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

* Route 654, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to Route 686. Signs will be posted.

Estimated completion fall 2013.

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

Primary Roads

* Route 11 at Route 42 (Town of Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday – Friday. Estimated completion May 2014.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 600 (Zepp Road) in Cedar Creek over Shell Run – Box culvert replacement. Width restriction is 10 feet and speed is reduced to 23 mph. Traffic controlled by flaggers during the day and stop and proceed at night. Estimated completion August 31, 2013.

* Route 629 – Paving from intersection of Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to intersection at Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013. * Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

* (NEW) Mile marker 300-324, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and shoulder repair. Be alert for roadside work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 307 to 313 – Mobile slow roll all lane closure for installation of overhead communication line. Sunday, July 21, 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66 * (NEW) Mile marker 0 to1 over I-81, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for bridge inspection. July 15, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

* (NEW) Mile marker 0-14.7 – Eastbound and westbound. Debris removal and shoulder repair. Be alert for roadside work. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

* Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.
