road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 7.5 to 7, westbound – Lane closures for spot milling and paving. Sunday, September 29, 12 noon to 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 36 to 37, eastbound – Lane closures for spot milling and paving. Sunday, September 29, 12 noon to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, cleaning paved ditches and bridge slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 220 – Road closure for pipe replacement from 0.04 miles north of Route 684 (Dunbrack Road), north of Covington. This section of the road will be closed to all traffic, September 30 at 8 a.m. to October 2 at 8 p.m. All non-commercial vehicles will detour via Route 687 (Jackson River Road) and Route 640 (Falls Hollow Road).  Commercial vehicles will not be allowed on this detour and will be directed to Routes 42 and 39 during the road closure.

(NEW) Various roads – Shoulder repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control,Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 638 (Natural Well Road) – Alternating flagger controlled single lane closures for soil and rock testing. Work zone 0.05 miles from Route 687 to 0.54 miles from Route 666. September 25 to October 1, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, brush cutting and patching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting and ditch cleaning with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control.Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching, pipe replacement, ditch cleaning and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Mowing with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, cleaning of bridge slopes and decks.Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 180.8 – Right shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Also southbound I-81 left exit ramp narrows to lane closures on Route 11.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completionOct.4, 2013.

Mile marker 182.2 to 182.3 – Northbound and southbound shoulder closures at Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) for bridge repair. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2013.

Mile marker 183.7 – Northbound shoulder closures over Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) for bridge repair. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2013.

(NEW) Mile marker 187 to 189, northbound – Spot milling and paving. Monday, 8 p.m. to 7 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 200 to 202.5, northbound – Lane closures and a traffic pattern change are scheduled for Monday throughFriday as part of the Truck Climbing Lane project:

– On Monday, September 30, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., left lane closure for paving work.

– On Tuesday, October 1, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., right lane closure for pavement marking.

– On Wednesday, October 2 through Friday, October 4, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., alternating lane closures for final sealing of rumble strips. With the exception of the daytime rumble-strip work, the final 2.5 miles of the Truck Climbing lane project will be open to all three lanes of traffic beginning Tuesday, October 1 at 7 a.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 173, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for cleaning

bridge decks. Wednesday and Thursday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 205 to 173, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, cleaning of bridge slopes, repair of mile marker signs and repair of shoulders on ramps. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 at I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill) – Flagger-controlled lane closures for repairs to I-81 bridge. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion Oct. 4, 2013.

Route 11 (South Lee Highway) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed for fiber optic cable installation. Flagger controlled traffic in work zone from the Natural Bridge Fire Station to 0.07 miles south of Route 680 (Falling Spring Road). Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 60 (East Nelson Street, Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is December 2013.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 679 (Hops Hill Road) – Shoulder closure or flagger controlled lane closure as needed for repair of bridge over I-81 southbound.  Work zone is 0.10 miles from Route 11 to 1.8 miles to Route 680. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2013.

Route 680 (Falling Spring Road) – Shoulder or flagger controlled lane closures as needed for repair of bridge over I-81.  Work zone is 0.2 miles from Route 11 to 0.05 miles to Fancy Hill Lane. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2013.

(NEW) Route 696 (Ford Hill Road) – Partial closure of Route 696 for bridge repair over Hayslette Creek. Work zone from intersection of Route 654 (Hayslette Road) and .3 mile west to Route 655 (Blacks Creek Road). October 7 to October 24.  Detour via Route 654 to Route 251 or Route 655 to Route 251.

Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Daytime lane closures for bridge work as part of the I- 81 Truck Climbing Lane project. Route 710 traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while crews work on the I-81 bridge deck. In addition, flaggers will temporarily hold traffic at various times during the work day as needed. Estimated completion November 2013.

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 250 – Shoulder repairs with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – (Rural Rustic project) Pipe replacement with flagger traffic control.Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 642 (Laurel Fork Road) – Ditching, grading, adding stone where needed with flagger traffic control. Monday toFriday. 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday. 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching with signs for traffic control. Monday to Friday. 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker exit 91 (Fishersville), eastbound and westbound – Left shoulder closure at exit 91 ramp for continuing ramp earthwork.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for cleaning bridge decks. Wednesday andThursday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, cleaning bridge slopes, paved ditches and repair of shoulders on ramps. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 227 to 210, southbound – Lane closures for spot milling and paving. Monday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville area) – Northbound intermittent lane closures for sewer work and seeding. Monday toFriday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 30, 2013.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Possible center lane closure from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) north 0.5 miles for shoulder repair. Estimated completion end of September 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 340 (North Delphine Avenue, Waynesboro) Lane closures and lane shifts as needed for drainage work at various locations and milling and paving. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion October 2013.

Route 358 (Woodrow Wilson Avenue) – Closed for grading, paving and sidewalk work from Route 880 (James Anderson Road) to Route 887 (Vance Lane). Traffic will be detoured. Estimated completion end of September 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road) – Flagger controlled traffic from 0.07 miles north of Route 794 to 0.25 miles south of Route 795 for Rural Rustic project. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 29, 2013.

Route 662 (Stover School Road) – Possible single lane closure for tree removal and paving from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to View Street. Estimated completion end of September 2013.

Route 701 (Howardsville Road) between Route 11 (Lee Highway) and Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) – Right shoulder closures with possible single lane closures for installation of right turn lane for C. Layman Subdivision. Monday to Friday, 8.a.m. to 5.p.m.  Estimated completion end of September 2013.

Route 754 – Resurfacing project that will include pipe installation, construction of new ditch lines, grading of surfaces and paving operations – Shoulder and lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers. Estimated completion Nov. 15, 2013.

Route 828 (Cattle Scales Road) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control. Expected completion October 2013. Route 1050 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1316 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1427 (Brand Station Road) – Right shoulder closure and flagger controlled intermittent lane closures, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as needed for underground utility work. Work zone 0.94 miles west of Route 638 (Desper Hollow Road) to 0.18 miles of Staunton city limits. Estimated completion end of October.

Route 1510 (Stuart Avenue, Stuarts Draft) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal and shoulder repairs. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Various roads – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

(UPDATE) Route 42 (North Main Street) at Route 617 (Church Street) in Timberville – Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of September.

(UPDATE) Route 259 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday. Estimated completion end of September.

Route 340 – Install new traffic signal at Route 1706 intersection. Flagger controlled traffic during daylight hours. Estimated completion Sept. 30, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of September.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector. Possible shoulder closures controlled by signs, from 0.512 miles east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.149 miles west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge work from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

Route 918 (Mill Street) – Closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – New traffic pattern as part of the bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway. Traffic has been routed onto new section of roadway, 0.1 mile south of Route 663 (Island Ford Road) to 0.16 mile south of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road). Expect daily lane closures and 24-hour shoulder closures. Estimated completion for bridge work is fall 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 615, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

Route 654, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to Route 686. Signs will be posted.

Estimated completion fall 2013.

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and shoulder repairs. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Various roads – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 and Route 42 (Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 – Paving from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and catch basin repairs. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 313 (exit 313) – Single lane closures as needed for repairs to Route 50 bridge over I-81 at exit 313. Monday to Friday, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Estimated completion mid-October.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 50 – Single lane closure on bridge over I-81 at exit 313 for bridge repairs. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Estimated completion mid-October.

(NEW) Route 533 – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
