The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 9.6, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures and right shoulder closures as needed for bridge repair over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with work suspendedNovember 25 through 29. Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes and under guardrails and removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with work suspended on Thursday, November 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, ditching, patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control, November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Shoulder repairs and brush cutting with flagger traffic control, December 2-6, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 – Flagger controlled lane closures for I-64 bridge repairs over Route 600 and Johnsons Creek. Monday toFriday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion Jan. 10, 2014.

Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, brush cutting, and ditching with flagger traffic control. November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 27, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Shoulder repairs, pipe cleaning, brush cutting and ditching with flagger traffic control and pilot truck, December 2-6, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, brush cutting, and ditching with flagger traffic control. November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Pipe cleaning, pothole repairs, brush cutting and ditching with flagger traffic control December 2-6, 8:30 to 4 p.m.

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 44 to 41, westbound – Single lane closures as needed for cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets. November 25 and 26, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with work suspended on Thursday, November 28.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches, repairing mile marker signs and removing debris. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with work suspended on Thursday, November 28.

(NEW) Mile markers 195 to 202.5, northbound – Right and center lane closures December 2-5, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. to complete milling and paving in this area of the Truck Climbing Lane project.

(UPDATE) Mile markers 199 to 201, northbound – The right lane of I-81 northbound will be closed November 25 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement marking work.  This work is taking place on the section of I-81 just before the bridge over Route 710 at exit 200. Upon completion of the pavement marking work, northbound traffic on this portion of I-81 will be switched to the two far right lanes at the Route 710 bridge to allow for additional bridge work. This work is part of the Truck Climbing Lane project.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (South Lee Highway) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed for fiber optic cable installation. Flagger controlled traffic in work zone from the Natural Bridge Fire Station to 0.07 mile south of Route 680 (Falling Spring Road). Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching, ditching, tree removal, pipe replacement and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Pothole repairs, shoulder repairs and ditching with traffic control by mobile operation Trash pickup with signs for traffic control, November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and December 2-6, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 631 (Furrs Mill Road) – Flagger controlled traffic for tree cutting operations around power lines from Route 11 (North Lee Highway) to Route 681 (Greenhouse Road). November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and November 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 710 (Sterrett Road) – Daytime lane closures November 25-30 and December 2-7 for bridge work as part of the I-81 Truck Climbing Lane project. Route 710 traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane Mondaythrough Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, while crews work on the I-81 bridge deck. In addition, flaggers will temporarily hold traffic at various times during the work day as needed.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Ditching, shoulder repairs, tree removal brush cutting, patching and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Trash pickup with signs for traffic control, November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Ditching, grading, tree removal, brush cutting and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Trash pickup with signs for traffic control, December 2-6, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – Ditching with flagger traffic control weekdays, November 25 to December 6, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with work suspended on November 27 at 11:30 a.m. and all day November 28.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Patching potholes with flagger traffic control. November 25-26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. andNovember 27, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Brush cutting and patching potholes with flagger traffic control, December 2-6,8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 91, westbound at exit 91 – Right shoulder closed for bridge construction work. November 25, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, repairing mile markers signs, cleaning paved slopes/ditches and under guardrails. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., work suspended on Thursday, November 28.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville area with project-related work on Stover School Road, Church Street View Street, Palmer Street, Graham Street, Blacksmith Shop Road, Old Staunton Road as needed) – Northbound intermittent lane closures for sewer project. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

(NEW) Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road – Fishersville) – Flaggers will shift traffic onto the shoulder in a two-mile area at exit 91. This lane switch is for pipe installation under I-64 exit 91 on-ramp as part of bridge construction. December 2 to 6, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 610 – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for paving operations between Route 660 and Route 633.November 25 to December 6, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with work suspended on November 28.

(NEW) Route 631 – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for paving operations between Route 608 and Route 340.November 25 to December 6, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with work suspended on November 28.

Route 642 (Barren Ridge Road) – Flagger controlled traffic from 0.07 mile north of Route 794 to 0.25 mile south of Route 795 for Rural Rustic project. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion Nov. 29, 2013.

Route 662 (Stover School Road) – One lane closure as needed from Route 11 to View Street. Flaggers and signs in place to assist motorist. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

(NEW) Route 703 – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for paving operations and shoulder work between Route 693 and Staunton City limits. November 25-27, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Route 916 (View Street) – Lane closures as needed for shoulder repair, from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south.  Estimated completion Dec. 30 2013.

Route 1050 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 1201 (Graham Street) – Possible lane closure for sewer work and tree removal in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

Route 1204 (Blacksmith Shop Road) – Possible lane closure for sewer work in Route 11 area. Estimated completionDec. 30, 2013.

Route 1206 (Old Staunton Road) – Possible lane closure for sewer work in Route 11 area. Estimated completion Dec. 30, 2013.

Route 1316 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for roadside debris removal, fence repair, and mile post replacements. Weekdays, November 25 to December 6, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with work suspended onNovember 28.

(NEW) Mile marker 240 to 247, northbound and southbound – “Slow roll” lane closures, Sunday morning, November 24, between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for installation of overhead utility lines crossing I-81.  The northbound slow roll lane closure will begin at exit 240 (Mount Crawford/Bridgewater) and finish at exit 247 (Route 33). The southbound slow roll will start at exit 247 and finish at exit 240. During the operation flagging crews will control interstate access at the on-ramps for exits 243 and 245. The operation will utilize Virginia State Police and variable message boards. All work is weather permitting, and slow-roll times are subject to change.

(NEW) Mile marker 248-249, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures for bridge inspection over Route 720. December 4, 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 687 – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for paving operations between Route 689 and 0.6 mile south of Route 689. November 25 to December 6, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with work suspended on November 28.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector. Possible shoulder closures controlled by signs, from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

(UPDATE) Routes 1182, 1183, 1184, 1185, 1186, 1142, 1143, 1146, 1147 (Belmont Subdivision) – Milling and paving operations. November 25 to 29, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with no work on November 28.

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 293, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures at various locations for bridge repairs, pothole repairs. Be alert for lane closure signage. Nighttime closures Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion end of November

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and brush removal around New Market Battlefield, tree removal. Weekdays, November 25 to December 6, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no work on November 28.

(NEW) Mile marker 265 to 315, northboundWatch for mobile pavement marking operations. Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.  Work suspended on Nov. 27, 28, 29, 30.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 and Route 42 (Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Be alert for new traffic patterns and temporary signals. Estimated completion May 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 629 – Paving from Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to Main Street. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, shoulder repair and drain cleaning. Weekdays, November 27 to December, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no work on November 28.

Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan. 14, 2014.

(NEW) Route 600 (Siler Road) – Flagger traffic control from route 522 (North Frederick Pike) to Route 690 (Howards Chapel Road) for pavement work. Estimated completion Dec. 13, 2013.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 – Nighttime alternating left and right lane closures, northbound and southbound, for utility work from 18thStreet to East Strasburg Road (Route 55). Monday to Friday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Estimated completion Nov. 25, 2013.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 mile north. Traffic control with periodic flagging operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
